I believe in both these cases they were just distributors of the Marvel and Dreamworks Animation films and never actually owned the rights to either. It was always a limited time distribution deal similar to the way the Bond films get shopped around to different major studios to distribute by MGM ('No Time to Die' is the first to be distributed by Universal but they don't have any ownership whatsoever over the property). They have a familiar cast and format; no need to reinvent the wheel again; just tell some neat science fiction stories.
