La-La Land Records and Paramount Pictures proudly present a limited edition remastered and expanded CD re-issue of acclaimed composer John Frizzell’s (ALIEN RESURRECTION, OFFICE SPACE, GODS AND GENERALS) original motion picture score to the classic 1996 animated feature film comedy BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO AMERICA, written and directed by Mike Judge.

Composer John Frizzell provides this 1996 big-screen debut of Mike Judge’s MTV phenomenon BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD with a rousing, powerhouse orchestral score worthy of any live-action blockbuster. Thematic, dramatic, soaring and propulsive, Frizzell’s notable work heightens this beloved film’s outrageous comedy while driving forward the titular character’s cross-country odyssey… An odyssey that will continue on later this summer when Frizzell re-teams with Mike Judge for the much-anticipated BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD DO THE UNIVERSE.

“I can’t imagine having a better friend than Mike Judge”, says Frizzell. “He’s been a part of my life for so long, so to have a friend who’s so close and to do these projects with him is pretty amazing. BEAVIS pushed me to write in a precise, highly detailed manner with my orchestration that we don’t get to do a whole lot of today.”

Produced by Dan Goldwasser and mastered by Doug Schwartz, this newly remastered CD presentation includes previously unreleased cues and exclusive, in-depth liner notes by writer Daniel Schweiger, featuring new interview comments from the composer and writer/director. The art design is by Goldwasser and the release is limited to 1000 units.

I had this soundtrack once upon a time. It was back when Frizzell was on fire in the 90s. Don't know what happened to it -- whether I sold it or traded it away or whatever. Would be interesting to revisit, all this time later.

Only tangentially related, but I had the "Beavis and Butt-Head Experience" on cassette way back in the day as a kid.  I was weirdly obsessed (aged 8 or 9) with B&B's duet with Cher on "I Got You Babe," the only way I knew that song for years.

And of course Come To Butt-head!

And the remix with Positive K!

I did watch quite a bit of B&B back in the day, but in general I wasn't very attracted to the stoner/slacker comedy that was quite popular for a while (Bill & Ted, Wayne's World, Beavis & Butthead). I found it stupid and not very relatable, even as a teen in the target audience. But somehow also a bit funny. Weird combo.

The old score album had 27:43 of score plus a song running 3:01, which seems to be left off of this. Would be interested in a spreadsheet comparison of the two if you felt up to doing one, Jay...

I'm not sure what you mean.  The old score album is the first 15 tracks of this new album.

I just hadn't looked closely. So this new version adds three cues (ten if one includes alternates and film versions), and removes the song at the end of the old score album.

It was a licensed song, so it shouldn't have been included in the first place. Frizzell produced the end credits song "Lesbian Seagull", though. So this one should have been an extra.

Speaking about that odd old score release, there was a 33-second cue featured twice on that set ("B&B Meet Muddy"). It's both on OST04 (0:36-1:08) and OST06 (0:55-1:28).

The three unreleased tracks are more than you think, "So Many Slots In Vegas" consists of 5 cues alone.

I have one in chronological order, but the new tracks need to be incorporated yet.

My copy arrived on Friday, looking forward to checking out the whole album after I really liked the samples!

Anybody else get it yet?

Do any JWFanners have any thoughts on this release?  I haven't found the time to open mine yet.

I listened to it and, as I suspected from the clips, I was pleasantly surprised.  A very listenable, very ‘90s orchestral release.  The only other Frizzell score I’ve ever heard was Legion, which I thought was pretty forgettable, so I’m pleased to see what he can do when he’s not droning on about fallen angels or whatever that movie was about.
