  1. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie - Graeme Revell This is really one of Revell's best scores, in terms of consistent quality and thematic development. I pine for a remastered release or a re-recording of the cues used for the OS release... Dan Wallin's mixing is really bad here. And the orchestra sounds really underpowered... even more reason for a limited edition re-recording.
  2. I've decided to rewatch Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 3, on a whim. It's held up very well, even with the somewhat dated outfits and visual effects. The action is a little less fun than what I originally remembered, but the acting and writing are still great. I doubt Eliza Dushku will be a breakout star, but her performance as Faith was great and held the season together nicely. She had great chemistry with Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Dushku's return later on was one of the highlights of the lackluster seventh season.
  3. It was shot with a cheap Canon camera, and it looked awful. I realize the production had little money, but they should've gone with 16mm or something. The video look really cheapened the movie's look. 28 Weeks Later looks wonderfully film-like without sacrificing that raw feel, and they used several kinds of cameras on that one.
  4. I wouldn't worry about the directors who still shoot film. A lot of productions rent out film cameras, so as long companies like Chapman/Leonard keep renting them out, 35mm isn't going the way of the dinosaur yet. I would say the days of 35mm would be limited when Kodak and Fujifilm stop producing film stock. That's not for a couple more years...
  5. City of Prague Philharmonic butchered Desplat's "Obliviate" cue for DH1: At least there's no need for a DH1 re-recording...
  6. I wouldn't mind if, God forbid, one of Zimmer's upcoming scores were thrown out and Desplat was asked to replace it. That would be a welcome change.
  7. At our theater chain -- yes. For some brand-new 3D releases, the studios sometimes refuse to send us a 2D version (like Sony). But studios like Disney, WB, Fox, and Paramount make sure we have an alternate 2D show available. Judging by the U.S. release roster (right now there's 4-5 scheduled wide releases for February 10th), I think for The Phantom Menace we'll have one or two 2D shows sharing space with the 3D version. Beauty and the Beast 3D will still be there, I assume if its 3D release is as popular as The Lion King's was.
  8. Warner Bros. did this for The Dark Knight -- they included the prologue (aka the bank robbery opening) on IMAX prints of I am Legend on December 2007. A two-minute trailer was attached to regular 35mm and digital showings of I am Legend at the same time. I'm not surprised they're doing it again. TDKR is literally the most anticipated movie out there.
  9. Eh. Give me a really good 2-minute trailer instead. I don't want to have even the first six minutes of TDKR spoiled for me.
  10. Yes, he is. BTW, Kaya, if you haven't read "Girl Who Played With Fire" yet -- you should. Lisbeth is front-and-center in that book, and I couldn't put it down once I started. "Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" is lengthier, more convoluted and protracted, but I enjoyed it. But with that, you could tell Larsson hadn't fully completed rewrites and trimmed the fat before he died.
  11. She would've -- Fincher expressly pointed out that if she was cast as Salander, he said that the audience "... can't wait for her to take her clothes off". He said Salander should be like E.T..
  12. Green Lantern I've watched it a second time, and my feelings remain the same. When the movie gets something right, it shows at how good the whole movie could've been (when the titular hero goes into action and the Carol/Hal romance). However, the movie is stuck with a half-baked story, while lifted directly from the comics, feels generic and straight out of "Superhero Movie 101" class. (And the movie does great disservice to Parallax and Hammond's comic-book origins.) Moreover, had Campbell been given final cut and time to make it his movie (a la more post-production time and less rewrites) -- we would've gotten an fun DC hero alongside Nolan's more dour Batman. As for the criticism leveled at Blake Lively's performance, I honestly don't see it. She's not an Oscar nominee by any shot, but she certainly did better than Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
  13. Thank goodness. Silvestri is certainly up to the task. But I wonder if he'll use Doyle's Thor theme or any of the thematic material from the first two IM movies?
  14. Nothing. Just when this film starts shooting, it won't clog that thread.
  15. Marvel Studios has no control over the movies Fox and Sony produce -- if anyone has the power to force Marc Webb to get a more 'marketable' composer for ASM, it's Sony music executives and not Kevin Feige. Marvel Entertainment is solely a profit participant for those films. You guys need to understand that just because all movies produced with the Marvel logo at the beginning, doesn't mean they're made by Marvel Studios. All the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil movies are Fox films, Spider-Man is Sony's property, and so forth. Only movies like Iron Man, Thor and Captain America are true Marvel Studios films, which are distributed by Paramount and Walt Disney Pictures respectively.
  16. I sort of agree with you. All of the Potter films have been very agreeable and the overall enjoyability hinges on the direction and script adaptation. Even though Sorcerer's Stone and Goblet of Fire have their cringe-inducing moments, they're still better than most sequels and prequels these days.
  17. Copying what I posted in a different forum: Any thoughts? I don't know who Jenkins will pick to score the film, but I'm hoping Doyle will return. (Or at least some of his themes.)
  18. The reboot's cast is simply better (or more prolific) than the 1978 film. The only true stars in the film prior to that release were Gene Hackman and Marlon Brando. With the 2013 film, you have Russell Crowe, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Amy Adams, and Lawrence Fishburne in supporting roles. Then you add in a good-looking unknown UK actor as Superman, and the overall cast should be the last of this film's worries. What people should be fussing over is whether the movie will be any good or not once it comes out.
  19. You should make Part 1 a top priority. I feel that like with Williams' Azkaban score, there's just so much depth and richness to the score, and if you don't like the more "atmospheric" parts -- the action cues will knock you on your ass. Desplat is so much better than Hooper. If we had gotten Desplat for Order of the Phoenix onwards, we wouldn't be complaining about how underwhelming the music was. Then again, it's a JW fan board, so even Desplat scored the last four films most of you guys would still bitch about how better Williams would've done it.
  20. I love how Disney is pretending Paramount and Marvel are still releasing this movie. Not to say Paramount isn't going to have their name and logo on the film, but how Disney is distributing it. (No Disney logo is anywhere to be seen.) But it looks epic. Hate how Marvel went back on their word and are making a 3D release.
  21. I don't see why people would complain about a 3D Nemo and Monsters. It's not the traditional post-conversion that live-action 2D does, and all Pixar had to do was insert another "virtual camera" for their Toy Story 3D double-feature release. You won't see a conversion company like Prime Focus, Legend3D or Animal Logic in the end credits for Pixar movies. I've heard that James Cameron "encouraged" Paramount and Fox to spend $18M to convert Titanic properly. He screened 15 minutes of converted footage in Europe to wild applause.
  22. Books: 1. Prisoner of Azkaban 2. Order of the Phoenix 3. Deathly Hallows 4. Goblet of Fire 5. Chamber of Secrets 6. Half-Blood Prince 7. Sorcerer's Stone Movies: 1. Prisoner of Azkaban 2. Deathly Hallows Part 2 3. Deathly Hallows Part 1 4. Order of the Phoenix 5. Sorcerer's Stone 6. Chamber of Secrets 7. Half-Blood Prince 8. Goblet of Fire Scores: 1. Prisoner of Azkaban 2. Deathly Hallows Part 1 3. Deathly Hallows Part 2 4. Chamber of Secrets 5. Sorcerer's Stone 6. Goblet of Fire 7. Order of the Phoenix 8. Half-Blood Prince
  23. Nice. Is the score being recorded at Newman Scoring Stage or Sony? ... I can't imagine Eastwood being used, unless the music budget was slashed significantly.
  24. It looks really manipulative, but in the classic Spielberg way. I still wish he'd do a full-blown comedy (not something featherlight like The Terminal or brash like 1941) or a full-out horror film. And yes, I know he's done Jaws but that's a more suspenseful film than outright scary.
  25. I like the clips. A lot of new, not a lot of old. Will have to see how well the music works in the film, though.
