  1. Bravo Marc Webb, for getting someone talented to score a big-budget tentpole. I was really worried we'd get a RC/MV composer on there to ape Zimmer's Batman scores.
  2. No, not really. Aside from that alien striping on his sides and sleeves, the suit keeps most of the basics (aside from no belt and red underwear, but those are changed in the new comics too). People, this is a reboot. Even though WB was essentially forced to do this movie (because of the rights issues), they want to make this film different and renew the franchise's popularity. The suit looks just fine to me, there are dozens of variations of Superman's suit like Spider-Man's is. (Even though I loathe next year's reboot suit, which just looks stupid.)
  3. Maybe Cavill's package is CGI'd. Or he's wearing a cup under that suit.
  4. The episode was all right, the writing was on autopilot and not as sharp and witty as it was in the past. Too many jabs and insults at Charlie, which is pretty low as how Sheen and Chuck Lorre buried the hatchet the night before the premiere. But Ashton was okay. I like his socially-awkward dunce character, but the show will either live or die depending on the chemistry Kutcher has with the supporting cast. He didn't have much chemistry with Cryer, but to be fair it was his first episode. I loved the cameos. Especially Jenna Elfman and Thomas Gibson reprising their roles from Dharma & Greg, Lorre should have the characters move next door and have them reoccur once in a while.
  5. I think everyone here would be ecstatic if Williams did score this movie. It'd definitely be a highlight of 2013, score-wise. (Emphasis on the "if" factor.) On another hand, another good look at the suit: It's not as vibrant as I thought it was, but Cavill is looking goood. He fills out that suit really well.
  6. Like I said in the previous page, the film will wrap shooting at the end of January 2012. It's rumored that the back-to-back shooting of The Hobbit is so far behind that Peter Jackson won't be able to deliver Part 1 on time for December '12, so it's still possible MOS will be released next year.
  7. Yeah. I don't trust IMDB when it comes to actor, director, or composer credits unless it's confirmed by a reliable source. On cinematographers and editors, IMDB tends to be right on those. A lot of people thought Lee Smith wasn't editing X-Men: First Class when his name appeared on IMDB, but that changed once the one-sheets came out.
  8. I don't get the love for Titus. The pure orchestral stuff is magnificent, but the varying styles Goldenthal uses just doesn't cut it on CD. It works fine in the film, as it does represent the varying eras and styles used in the film. But on CD, nah.
  9. Yeah. I'm hoping Snyder convinces his new DP to go for a less stylized look when they're going through the digital intermediate and color-timing the final product. Amir Mokri's style is cool, heavily-saturated tones, as evidenced with Transformers 3. It's closer to Larry Fong's work on Watchmen and Sucker Punch when you analyze it closely. And according to IMDB, David Brenner is editing Man of Steel. He's done several Roland Emmerich blockbuster films (ID4, 2012, The Patriot) and co-edited Pirates of the Caribbean 4. I know Snyder doesn't have free reign anymore and that his regular collaborators like Fong and editor Bill Hoy weren't able to do MOS, but Mokri and Brenner seem like very "safe" options for a big-budget reboot. Also, one moderator from the SuperHeroHype forums tells me that MOS is still scheduled to wrap shooting January 2012, while The Hobbit is rumored to have fallen behind to the point where Part 1 might not make its December 14, 2012 date. As WB is releasing these films, I wouldn't be surprised if the two films swap release dates.
  10. If you see the set photos, the colors on Cavill's suit is closer to your color-corrected photo than the one WB issued. Much more vibrant.
  11. I got two tickets for that Doris Goodwin event, and an e-mail to the person in charge of the events says she's coming solo. She did say if Spielberg did make an unscheduled appearance, "we'd ALL be surprised and excited!" Should be fun either way. I'll keep a sharp eye out in case Spielberg's less prominent friends like Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall come. Or someone less prominent like Tony Kushner, a lot of the theater department loves his work.
  12. I honestly was on the fence when that publicity photo of Cavill-as-Superman came out, but the set pics look fantastic. I don't mind the lack of red underwear, the suit nicely accents Cavill's muscular frame without screaming "padded suit!"
  13. Eh, I'm not sold on it. I mean, it's Spielberg and all, but I wouldn't put it past Spielberg to put Robopocalypse on hold if something else tickles his fancies after Lincoln. You know how fickle future Spielberg projects are until he starts getting a final cast and start date shaped up.
  14. Uh... The Cape? Very dynamic and heroic music, even for a truncated 10 episode order. McCreary uses brass impressively, and the orchestra he got for this one is reportedly the largest used for a TV show score (around 70 pieces). I wish that show got a CD release.
  15. I definitely agree. The additions in the FOTR and ROTK EEs weigh the movie down -- and while some scenes are welcome (like the Mouth of Sauron scene in ROTK and Galadriel granting the Fellowship their gifts in FOTR), a lot of them bog the movie down.
  16. Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers Comparing the theatrical and extended versions, the extended is just better all around. 95% of the additions should've been in the theatrical cut. Howard Shore's score is just sublime, and my personal favorite from the trilogy.
  17. An ambient score like Isham's Crash would be excellent too. It's just that Reznor isn't good at it like his peers are.
  18. I should've phrased it better. "It's not just insanity", it's a flat-out great score.
  19. I've heard it, but I prefer Hannigan's work on the OOTP and HBP games. Those two put Hooper's efforts to shame. It is, it's not heard in full. Hooper used different variations throughout, and part of it is used when Malfoy walks to the Room of Requirement. It's a shame Yates won't sign off on extended versions of his films like Columbus did. I would love to see extended versions of DH1 and DH2, especially the latter. The Dumbledore backstory is hinted at, but they cut the explanation out of the finished cut. It'll likely be part of the deleted scenes on the DVD and Blu-ray release, but not reinstated in a longer cut.
  20. TOD isn't insanity. It's one of JW's best scores, period. I just re-listened to Battle: LA. I enjoyed it, but Brian Tyler needs to arrange his albums differently. Or better yet, cut out some cues to make the best listening experience.
  21. Uh, yes he did work with Desplat. Curious Case of Benjamin Button, remember? I'm definitely not a fan of Trent Reznor's efforts on TSN. A Desplat score in A Prophet mode, Shore revisiting Seven territory, or even Goldenthal would've done wonders for something like Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It's like with Christopher Nolan, Fincher is frustrating with his composer choices since the movies he makes are terrific. Both Nolan and now Fincher favor a more sound-based score than something emotional or orchestral. Such a shame.
  22. Huh. Doris Goodwin, the author of Team of Rivals (which Kushner adapted for Lincoln), will be the guest speaker for my alma mater's 175th anniversary. She's scheduled to appear Thursday, Oct. 13 at the King Center Gym. http://www.ehc.edu/emorynews/175th-anniversary-keynote-speaker-doris-kearns-goodwin I just have a strange feeling someone from the production will make an unscheduled appearance. The film is being shot in the fall in Virginia (where my college is), my school has a history dating back before the Civil War, and her appearance timing lines up with the production schedule. It's unlikely Spielberg will make an appearance, but one can dream.
  23. Enthusiasm, yes. Power? Ehh, I could tell with the opening percussion on "Prologue" that the players aren't used to precise downbeats and timing. Like I've said before, there's more than enough playing flubs that draw me out of the listening experience. The re-recording can't quite capture that rawness the original orchestra nailed, but everything else is better. But if you guys want one or both, then more power to you.
  24. No, WB never really greenlit the GL sequel. They had the writers pen a treatment for a sequel after filming on GL wrapped, but never set a release date. Michael Goldenberg, the guy who was responsible for the shooting draft, was hired to write a script using said treatment. But in a recent interview with WB honcho Jeff Robinov, they don't mention a script-- just a treatment. Sony just wants to reclaim that early May spot before Disney or WB takes it. But they're awfully confident in a film that hasn't come out, let alone finished.
