BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Still beats what they gave the original Uhura to do. Glorified phone operator.
Delorean90 47 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I've got one job on this lousy ship; it's stupid, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?
Brónach 1,330 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Still beats what they gave the original Uhura to do. Glorified phone operator. I meant on a narrative level, but yeah, that was a very fitting idea. I was surprised when I read it wasn't always that!I've got one job on this lousy ship; it's stupid, but I'm gonna do it! Okay?I remember that
Henry B 51 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 I wonder if they made the new Uhura a "xenolinguistics expert" just to poke fun at that scene in ST6 where she fumbles through a Klingon-English dictionary trying to put a few short phrases together.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 Still beats what they gave the original Uhura to do. Glorified phone operator. yea but being the first High Profile black woman on tv and being on one end of the first interracial kiss is something, at least then
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted March 26, 2013 Posted March 26, 2013 You would be surprised how soon you get used to interracial kissing!
BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 That trailer "worked." It's the same iteration of the other ones, but the editing is far better. The use of sound effects to punctuate beats worked well too. Makes the other trailers look amateurish.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I love the columnar jointing they put there at the side of the volcano.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 They're doing audiobooks of novels based on film scripts now?Alice Eve will read the Star Trek Into Darkness audionovel, which will be released on May 21 by Simon & Schuster Audio. Eve, of course, will co-star in the Star Trek (2009) sequel as Dr. Carol Marcus. According to Simon & Schuster Audio, the Star Trek Into Darkness audionovel will run 8 hours and 30 minutes, will spread across 7 CDs and will cost $29.99 at Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble. Fans also will be able to purchase it for download via iTunes and audible.com.http://www.startrek.com/article/alice-eve-to-read-star-trek-into-darkness-audionovel
Trent B 354 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 8 hours for a Star Trek audio novel? That's an over kill...
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 8 hours for a Star Trek audio novel? That's an over kill...no it's not, that's about normal for an audio book on CD.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Joe is rightThat must have hurt!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I like to listen to audio books on my drives to little rock, I can get in about 5 hours of listening and get the rest over the two week check out period.
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I enjoyed the Harry Potter audio books. I have downloaded a ton from Librovox but haven't made time for them. But yeah, it takes a lot longer for someone to coherently and pleasantly read a book out loud than it does to quickly skim over it.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I suppose it's neat that Alice Eve is reading the audio book but not being familiar with her makes it irrelevant to me.I have not listened to any Star Trek Audio novels but I hope my library gets this one.
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I have the first Eugenics War one but never read it. Star Trek novels are usually lousy, though this falls into novelization territory.
Delorean90 47 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Alice Eve reading something to me does sound nice...Crafty bastards.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 She was Vince's girlfriend in the final episodes of Entourage, and the main girl in that Jay Baruchel movie "She's Out Of My League".Apparently she was also in Sex and the City 2, Men In Black 3, and an episode of Poirot
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Cumberbatch has the same downturned face, with eyes looking front Pine had in the poster for the 2009 film.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 It seems like every sci-fi movie coming out this year has a dark and dismal vision of the future, and subsequently the marketing campaigns are all dark and gloomy too.Star Trek Into Darkness, Elysium, Oblivion, After Earth, etc etc.Where's the next Fifth Element?
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 What the hell is wrong with these marketing people??????
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 The future does not seem very bright in real life either.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 It seems like every sci-fi movie coming out this year has a dark and dismal vision of the future, and subsequently the marketing campaigns are all dark and gloomy too.Star Trek Into Darkness, Elysium, Oblivion, After Earth, etc etc.I know. Personally, I tried very hard not to do that in what I'm writing.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I'm looking forward to this fall's fare much more:Machete Kills, Sin City 2, Ender's Game, mmm
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 With JJ going over to take over the Star Wars franchise for a while, I can see Star Trek 13 going in a completely different direction than 12.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 JJ definitely made it the biggest boxoffice hit of the series.
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Into Darkness has the potential to make more, but it might depend if people are already doom-and-gloomed out after Iron Man 3 and Oblivion. Though I expect the cast and Star Trek name will be more than enough to make it bring in the most money of any Star Trek film, I think.Almost time for the Summer 2013 Box Office thread
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 suggested titles, Star Trek XIII Back into the Light Star Trek XIII Renaaissance Star Trek XIII Generations II, The Return of the Picard. Into Darkness has the potential to make more, but it might depend if people are already doom-and-gloomed out after Iron Man 3 and Oblivion. Though I expect the cast and Star Trek name will be more than enough to make it bring in the most money of any Star Trek film, I think. Almost time for the Summer 2013 Box Office thread I was preparing to create it this evening. with a bit of a twist or addition.

BLUMENKOHL 1,110 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 You people whine too much. You have nearly 60 years worth of optimistic Hollywood to consume! The people cutting themselves have only the last decade of Hollywood to enjoy. Greedy sons o' bitches!
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I'm optimistic!I meant what are you writing?Karol
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I'm optimistic!I meant what are you writing?Well, it's set in the future, but the social/cultural mindset is as different from us as ours could be to the people of the Paleolithic. Normally what you get in these films is people who are like us, specially biologically (under the excuse of the characters having to be relatable), and give them some other crazy technology depending on the story like human robots and faster than light travel and what not. Prometheus, Star Trek, etc. That can lead to a rather grim view of the future at some point. publicist 1
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Why don't you share it sometime. I'd like to read it.Karol
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I might post some of it this summer if I manage to put it into a decent shape.
Brónach 1,330 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 No, but it's actually a comic book and pictures are universal! I've tried writing prose in English but I felt stuck.
crocodile 9,724 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 As someone on Facebook said: "The entire Star Trek franchise, going down in flames, thanks to J.J. Abrams." Karol Jonesy 1
shockwave 8 Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 As someone on Facebook said: "The entire Star Trek franchise, going down in flames, thanks to J.J. Abrams." KarolFinally a decent poster instead of The Mission Impossible style poster.
