  1. Dated Special Effects.

  2. Trevor Jones' score to "Loch Ness" has some celtic touches. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pNunXYqXhwk The track "Raven's Wind", from "Hercules: The Lengendary Journeys" (Volume 3) will be, or at least should be, right up your alley.

  5. Yes, and good or bad, you can say he's made real efforts, even when borrowing from himself. I know another composer, whom I won't name, who also refuses to work with temp tracks. Consequently he's not scoring anymore. I don't blame any composer for it. I think a director should put himself in the same situation. You sign on to a direct a film, and when you're ready, the studio steps in and gives you a reel of edited footage from other films, telling you, "This is how we want to the film to look, and we want you to shoot as closely to these scens as you can without directly stealing them"; how would you feel? They hire you for your artistry and immediately piegon-hold it and deny any wing spreading (in fact, use somebody else's wings!).
  6. I believe it was Morricone who refuses to work on a film with a temp track.
  7. The hover bike chase from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi" -- didn't look all that great when it was in theaters, still doesn't look good. Some are :okay", while others scenes are worse. Still, it was epic for it's time. As much as I love "Star Trek: Generations", the saucer and planet it's heading down to, still look fake. And some of the close ups during the crashing, make it obvious it's a big prop. And in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", the way people disentigrate from a "kill" setting on the phasers, still looks a little fake. Miles better than in TOS. And certainlky, even though over a decade earlier, better than some of the early TNG scenes where people would litterally come to a stand still, and have this unnatural disappearance. At least in TWoK and TSFS (the only two Trek films I can think of that had moving people disentergrating) they were in motion when it, as it would be in real life situations. Some of those shots in the Earth's air of the Bird of Prey, in "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" look fake. As cool as it was, and still is, the T-1000 from "Terminator 2" in liquid morphing form still looks a little fake and computer generated. The less said about the horrible, clay animation looking shark from "Jaws 3", the better. In fact, let's keep pretending the film never existed. Come to think of it, I can't name a single bad special effects shot in the first film. Another reason it's near perfection.
  8. Four cues from "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" (William Olvis):
  9. I remember one story from a member, possibly on FSM, who told he somehow got invited to a session (I forget which score), and he brought a little bag of CD's to sign, if the chance arouse, but he decided not to. Goldsmith was polite, chatted briefly, and he had a great time, and when he left and retrieved his bag, when he wasn't looking, guess who signed them? Great little story.
  10. And telling Joel something like, "Joel, you think you can get back to work now?" But yopu got to remember, this wasn't a fun-filled thing for him, this was work and he took it very seriously. Except that one time he put on a gorilla mask for POTA. ;-) Just watch those 24+ minute of sessions from "Menphisto Waltz" on Youtube. Just watch all those interviews on Youtube. Just read any of his interviews in magazines, like Soundtrack!. Where one might see a "dick", another with stronger work princaples might see a man with a love and passion, under studio pressure (each minute of recording in very pricey...) to get it done, while at the same time making any producer/directors there happy, and not alienating the musicians in the process. And he had at least two kids, a divorce, a drinking habbit at one time, and then illness that lead to his death. Give the man a little room.
  11. Yes, but it's never quite, as I recall, used to show a love connection between the characters, except one scene you could construe it as such. And it's not called a "love" theme, but "Dana's" theme. A little too ambiguous for me.
  12. Trent, I comparred the old boot to the new one with excellent sound, and then aganst the film -- if you combine the properly, it's the complete score, with some cues not used, some alternates*. * = There are, however, two pick-ups missing. The Main Title has some opening bars not on either boot, and another cue (that's I don't recall the name of) has a brief extended ending.
  13. 36 minutes into the new day. Where's your "Hook" now??? MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
  14. You know, that's something to think about. If you're an older collector, have medical problems, a certain big fat record producer sits on you, or if you just plain die unexpectedly, who gets your CDs? We need Score Wills.
