It will soon turn out Howard Shore was only humming certain themes to his orchestrators and spent the rest of this scoring schedule in Hawaii. ;)

I just noticed Tauriel's theme appears in the Smaug Laketown attack, when she's in the boat and Smaug swoops overhead!

Yup. I remember noting that the first time I saw the film. The opening sequence is one of the pieces I certainly wouldn't mind having in complete form. :)

I anticipated the connection before Shore even began on the trilogy.

Speaking of all the Bilbo/Bard thing, there's a funny clip in 2014 FSM roundup by Al and Jon Kaplan where they call Bard's Family theme The Spite of Howard. ;)

Just thought I should mention that I was not able to find ANY substantial unreleased music on the BOTFA DVD featurettes.

Oh year, for some reason I thought it was announced early last year.

I must have confused the annoucement with Doug mentioning he didn't know anything about extras until April.

isnt that usually the case until the Bluray comes out?

Not really, AUJ had a bunch of unreleased music in the production diaries, DOS had a few bits of unreleased music in the Production Diaries and such.

The score for DOS and BOTFA is used pretty much throughout, apart from 3:56 - 4:54. It doesn't sound like Shore though, what could it be?

Original music composed for the documentary/DVD.

I can't understand how they'd hire a composer for just a minute of the New Zealand ad, especially when so much Shore music is available.

More likely just licensed music they have access to? Some composers write generic/ambience music for TV/Film companies to license right?

The DVD credits say "Original Music By somebody".

Some unknown music I found in the BOTFA DVD featturettes:

We need as much Dwarven chanting as possible (it kind of reminded me a bit of the music for the first Balrog appearance). Hopefully that's in the EE, or else we hear it on CR's or a Hobbit Rarities Archive some day.

Remember, it could just be music taken from FOTR, seeing as it was taken from the Completing Middle-earth documentary.

Battle of Middle-earth III has been announced:

http://www.bfme3.net/

I mention this here because didn't the previous BFME games have a fair amount of (at the time) unreleased LOTR music? I might be wrong about that, but if not it could be our first chance to get some good quality unreleased Hobbit music.
