Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 According to Barbara Broccoli, Newman's written and recorded source music that's been played at the Day of the Dead sequence.Broccoli: But it's a lot of fun. That's the thing... It's very exciting for everybody. It makes them step up to the plate when you have a challenge like that. Sam had a real vision of his version of the Day of the Dead, and everybody really embraced it. Tom Newman created special music for it and everything. So it feels like a big celebration to us.http://uk.ign.com/articles/2015/03/29/james-bond-producers-delve-deep-into-spectre?page=2 Music's at 0:17
Lady Dimitrescu 9,975 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 Thomas Newman is the closest we'll get to having John Williams score a Bond movie. Sharkissimo and crumbs 2
Jilal 628 Posted March 30, 2015 Posted March 30, 2015 I'm mildly looking forward to this score - something à la Skyfall would certainly be worth a few listens, but I'd be even more interested in having Newman come out of his current comfort zone and write more melodically oriented action cues.
Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted August 25, 2015 Author Posted August 25, 2015 From the recording sessions of the trailer music, composed by Jeff Pfiefer (he's done all of the Craig Bond trailers).Interesting... baritone and bass sax.
Jay 42,719 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 According to a "Warren Ringham" in the "James Bond Music" Facebook group:I can reveal the soundtrack is being recorded at Abbey Road as we speak...https://www.facebook.com/groups/JBMAS/permalink/1052747301431695/

Wonder if that reflects plans for the score or if it's just his own thing....
Jay 42,719 Posted September 16, 2015 Posted September 16, 2015 Now the same guy posted pictures of the recording sessions
Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 Is it me or does it look like one of the trombone players (guy in the plaid shirt) is doubling on a euphonium or baritone horn? Check out the suspended gongs at the back! Is that a Taiko drum to the left of the timpani?Saw some cup mutes, though I hope there's plunger mutes this time. That's one thing Skyfall lacked, IMO.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 I think the trombone slide is just blurred out there, not a euphonium.

Quintus 5,728 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Sounds like the writings on the wall for Smith's Bond song.

antovolk 99 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I wonder how much of the album it's going to be, the whole thing (doubt it) or a few tracks....I remember Michael Giacchino debuting like 4/5 tracks, including a suite that wasn't on the album, from Star Trek Into Darkness on radio.

Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Hmmm.Backfire- I miss woodwinds (though granted with the extremely lossy/compressed audio it's hard to judge)- Like the psytrance passage- Choir? We haven't had that since Die Another Day. Hope it's not a bad omen.- Newman really likes Locian mode doesn't he?- The bowed Appalachian dulcimer back!- Lots of truck driver modulations- Skyfall quote feels lazy.- Bass flute Bond theme!Donna Lucia:- The initial phrase is same Major/Minor thing as in Severine, except in E rather than F.- They share recurring intervals - 6ths and 9ths- The consequent passage is more interesting. A, C/G, F#7, and the D (with #4 appoggiatura) to F# cadential figure. More tonally elusive than Barry in general. Is the F# (V/V) a dominant substitute? Questions, questions.
crocodile 9,219 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Only the first tracks plays for me.And I like it! Quite lush.Karol

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,984 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Why is a direct quote from the previous score always seen as lazy?
crocodile 9,219 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Happens in most franchises. I don't mind. What do you think about the new music, Steef?Karol
Alex 2,939 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 The action cue sounds a lot better than the ones from Skyfall. I imagine it was lot easier the second time around. crocodile and Sharkissimo 2

Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 Interview with Newman on BBC Radio 3.http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06gt253#playSkip to around 50 minutes in.
peter.anschutz 43 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Meh. I hope David Arnold returns to the franchise.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I like what I hear. Newman should stay. Arnold should keep his distance.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,984 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 David Arnold Will Return!
crocodile 9,219 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 ... in Sherlock Christmas Special!Karol
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,984 Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 I doubt Coolman will stay once Mendes moved on.
Sharkissimo 1,975 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Posted October 15, 2015 True. It'll be Johan Johansson.
publicist 4,648 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 It's only Bond, so yeah. let's dump the junkie right there.
Alex 2,939 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 As long as Hans Zimmer doesn't get anywhere near the Bond franchise, I'm not bothered.
crocodile 9,219 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I'm fine with either Arnold and Newman. But would also like to hear other people's take on Bond... Danny Elfman? Joe Kraemer? Desplat?Karol

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,984 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Because the earth would explode!
Alex 2,939 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 As long as Hans Zimmer doesn't get anywhere near the Bond franchise, I'm not bothered. Why?In my opinion he'll most likely try and do something "quirky" or "original" with it and it'll sound awful (I hated Man of Steel and TASM2). It'll just be his generic action material, string ostinatos and thumping bass. Not to mention "Additional music by Geoff Zanelli, Lorne Balfe, Rupert Gregson-Williams, Pharrell Williams, Junkie XL, Nick Glennie-Smith, Phil from Accounting.. etc etc" Florian 1
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,261 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 That's a silly thing to think.
