Typing of which... what are your impressions, Alan?

EDIT: Bloody KK, I was here first! Stop stealing my post ideas!

Karol

You're losing it, old man!

Why thank you Alan!

Any thoughts on the score?

I haven't listened to it yet. I was going to preview it on Spotify, but I guess it's not out yet here in the States.

Did you like Skyfall?

Were you a fan of Newman's Skyfall?

EDIT: KK!!!

I think it's become clear now that there can only be one KK on JWFan. And I certainly don't intend to leave!

Listen again! And again! And again!

Till you like it!

Nah Karol, it won't help. Upon closer examination i think there are much more dead ends than i thought initially. Cues that are short to begin with and don't go anywhere, begin promisingly but then fizzle out, or just lie there. A few cues worth having - preferably in a Newman/Bond general playlist - but in this case i may say that this musical chest of wonders Sharky and Pilgrim have found is completely over my head.

Where do I fit in this U?

You'll appear in JWFAN: Ragnarök, but you won't have a standalone movie, sorry.

I suppose I will have my Incanus the Infinity Analysis Saga two parter which will probably be turned into a three parter for more money?

He's Black Faleel of our cinematic universe.

I'm eating a new box of corn flakes this morning. The flakes are oddly large compared to ordinary corn flakes. Sometimes even the most boring cereal can achieve extraordinary things.

The eternally long stretches of ambient noises in this score are hard to tolerate for anyone who values melody.

Those sorts of moments are why I also find parts of the LotR EE material snooze worthy and musically redundant. The same one note sheer strings played ad infinitum is as tedious to me as any Newman ambience is.

To be honest, all film composers are guilty of that. In one way or another. It's in the nature of this medium.

To all the guys who don't like this score. Do you think it might have more to do with the 80-minute running time than it does with the actual content?

Karol - who can't wait to see the film tonight

The album definitely needs trimming, just like the other Newman Bond. But Skyfall's content is just better.

To be honest, I do wish I had seen the movie before checking out the score

With Skyfall I definitely felt the music stood out a lot and I wanted to hear it again.

Now with Spectre I cannot be sure if the music is as memorable, because I already know what it sounds like

and again. I do prefer having the choice of what track to skip, over the album choosing for me

Absolutely. Which is why the pro complete release argument can sometimes come across as obsessive and specialist only. Because there's plenty of filler underscore out there which just doesn't demand to be 'owned' by the listener; they only want it because they don't have it and they know it exists. OST presentations are often perfectly fine as they are.

Seeing the film did wonders for the previous one. I didn't like it at first, you see.

Most of them are, yeah. Expanded releases have more of a archival value. If you are into studying those things closely.

So when Thomas Newman apparently includes some of that sort of thing on his OST then we shouldn't really be surprised when listeners like myself say the album is a bit mediocre or even crappy, at least in part.

Or maybe, just maybe the listener has a thing for that kind of material, and ambient music in general?

You're right. I myself never said his album assembly is any good. I sort of ignore that in my reviews for the most part. I try to find out what their intention might have been and whether it works (for the film). The album presentation is a separate issue. The older I am the less I like 70+ albums. There are only a few scores that deserve that kind of running time.

There is always at least one track they leave off an album that I wished had been on there

Always (even on those Hobbit releases)

Not to mention I am very much a completionist

On the flipside, there is usually a track on the album that I always skip

Of course. Other listeners would possibly find it no less boring, though. (I like a bit of tonal ambience too, sometimes)

Seeing the film in little over 2 hours and decided to finally listen to the song.

Why does this guy sound like they clamped his nuts in a vice? That is really offputting!

[EDIT}

No, not a vice, he sounds like he's being fucked in the ass with a broken coke bottle while singing that!

Christ!
