  1. I went to a Spielberg/Williams LSO concert a couple of years ago and they played excerpts from Schindler's List and War of the Worlds as well as "Jim's New Life" from Empire of the Sun. I know JW wasn't conducting but it was still odd to hear some of those performed live.
  2. "Sirius Black's Escape" from POA. Really wish that was included on the soundtrack album. I'm sorry I misread "unused" as "unreleased". I always liked "The Hunt" from TLW.
  3. Apart from Morricone and Williams, are there any other (well known) composers over 80 who are still working? I remember going to a film music concert by the LSO and it was conducted by Harry Rabinowitz who was 93 at the time.
  4. I think we should be thankful that he's still working aged 83 and that back trouble seems to be his only ailment. Goldsmith, Barry, Bernstein, Poledouris, Kamen etc all didn't reach 83...
  5. Probably depends on his back. I doubt it will really make much difference. Loads of composers don't conduct their own scores nowadays anyway. I don't think JW conducted Jurassic Park and that turned out fine.
  6. His Harry Potter score is great as a standalone listening experience, but he abandons all of JW themes apart from the main one. "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" is one of my guilty pleasures.
  7. Judging from his complete lack of enthusiasm in that introduction, backing out of Spielberg's Cold War Drama and William Ross conducting, I'm now expecting Williams On Autopilot® for TFA. Williams on autopilot is still vastly superior to most film music these days anyway. I don't expect anything particularly "original" for TFA, I just can't wait to hear some good ol' JW kick-ass action cues.
  8. You all sound a bit paranoid to me. It was a video of a video of JW who was probably reading off an autocue, that's probably why he doesn't sound "normal".
  9. As long as JW is able to write music, I see no reason why he wouldn't do the next two. He may not conduct the recording sessions though.
  10. How reliable is that rejected scores website? John Williams and Inside Out surely was never on the cards. I'd also be interested to know if anyone had any information on this: It used to say in his biography on Filmtracks that he's considered arrogant and how in an interview he said he was more concerned about the Academy Awards that he hadn't won rather than the ones he had. I just wondered if anyone had heard anything similar?
  11. A lot of composers these days don't conduct their own stuff (Doyle, Zimmer, Giacchino etc) so I don't think it's too much of a problem. Any soundtrack that JW releases nowadays is simply a bonus. I can't see him doing any other stuff after "The BFG" tbh. The whole process must be exhausting for a man of his age. Although, I look at Ennio Morricone and that gives me some hope!
  12. Does this mean his health issues have cleared up? When are the scoring sessions for TFA meant to be starting? I'm really hoping for a documentary like for ESB
  13. I don't see the quote mentioning that any players would be flown in from *outside the US*. So this still seems unlikely to me. Except perhaps for featured soloists. I kinda assumed he did this anyway. I know he has certain "go-to" musicians like Tim Morrison.
  14. Hopefully they'll fly in the LSO's Brass section. Although, surely there will be issues with union rules/visas?
  15. Which of JW's film scores has he orchestrated himself in the past? Are they any different to any of his others?
  16. https://twitter.com/londonsymphony/status/580132931479478272 Seems as if JW would have recorded the score with the LSO had the score not had to be recorded over a few months
  17. Recording quality should be great. I am concerned about whether the LA musicians are up for. The performance for Indy 4 was noticeably inferior to the LSO.
  18. Spielberg may have wanted the score for "Bridge of Spies" written as soon as possible so he could make a start with "The BFG". JW did have to take almost a month off with his "minor health issue". For all we know, it could have affected his ability to write.
