Will reacted to crumbs in The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration Part III CD & DVD (And Ultimate Collection CD / VINYL box set)
I was staggered that wasn't used for the Disney logo, it syncs up perfectly! The orchestration lines up with the tilt down from the stars, the reveal of the flag and fireworks, and the warm orchestral swell at 0:24 occurs exactly when the Disney logo appears.
Can't help but wonder if Williams wrote it for the Disney logo but they changed their minds.

I just checked the 4 company logos at the start of The BFG and Williams' music syncs up the whole way through! From all the Disney logo sync points, to punctuating logos fading off, to a flute cadenza timed exactly as the stone skips across the water in the Walden Media logo! It's an astonishing coincidence if unintentional.

Will reacted to crumbs in Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson 2017)
I'm sure the topic will be broached at Celebration in April, seeing as most of the film should be scored by that point. Aren't the remaining sessions through March/April?

I love it! They even have John Williams and Disneyland nearby!

Wow, this LA sounds like a great place. First the Rams, then the Chargers, and now a Lucas museum.

Will reacted to Disco Stu in BFG Blu-ray to Include "John Williams: Scoring a Dream" Featurette (UPDATE: Seems to have been axed)
I don't think it's even on the iTunes release of The BFG.
This appears to be all of the extras on the iTunes release:

Will reacted to bollemanneke in My 1,000th post
Stefancos did it a while ago, and now it's my turn, though it's highly unlikely he will ever need to feel threatened by my post count given my current posting speed.
Just thought it would be a good moment to mention that I'm really glad I joined this forum. It's a much nicer place than that other place some of us occasionally visit. I especially love the enormous discussion diversity, you have threads for absolutely everything one could possibly think of. And of course the dry humour doesn't hurt either. Thank you!

Volume 1 came out in 1991 and is called "The Spielberg/Williams Collaboration: John Williams Conducts His Classic Scores For the Films of Steven Spielberg" and features music from their first 10 feature films
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00000271M
Volume 2 came out in 1995 and is called "Williams on Williams: The Classic Spielberg Scores" and features music from collaborations 2-6, 8, 11-13.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00138KKYO/
The 5 piece Hook suite on that release is essential!
The new 4CD set coming out from Sony on March 3rd contains volume 1 on CD1, volume 2 on CD2, the ALL NEW Volume 3 on CD3, and a DVD on disc 4. The track list is posted here, and we don't have the cover or a press release yet - nor do we even know what the "true name" of the 3rd volume is, since all we know is that the 4 disc bundle is called "John Williams & Steven Spielberg: The Ultimate Collection".

We don't have the sheet music for CD Version, so its impossible for us to know exactly what all of that was like (however, large portions of it were re-used in Gelb Version)

For some reason, when Obi-Wan says to Palpatine
"Mr. Speaker, we are for the Big"
made me really crack up. Very funny.

What a load of entitled fanboy horse shit!
You hated a film, so Williams must have hated it too? So much he faked a heart condition to get out if it?
Seriously.

"Yes, yes, Steven baby, this movie looks really, really interesting. I can't wait to write the score for it! But oh... Ouch! My back! My poor back! It hurts so much... I'm afraid I won't be able to compose the music... I'm so sorry... You know, my poor back..."

My guess is that Duel Of The Fates was used extensively in TPM's marketing campaign, got its own single, a music video and helped make the OST a very strong seller for Sony Classical. Moreso than the average soundtrack.
So when the sequel score was produced Sony's management hoped to recreate that success and began meddling with the album more that is customary for a soundtrack release like that.
