  1. Most people don't care about the music in movies, they don't listen to soundtracks outside of them. In case of the themes you mentioned people got used to them through the years because of countless repetitions in the games, movies etc.etc. I bet your friends have seen Force Awakens one or two times, meaning they heard Rey's Theme probably like 10 times? Most of those times they were probably too focused on visuals and/or dialogue to consciously notice it. Let's just wait... Also what facts did I not get quite on point? EDIT: Nice editing skills, Cantus. Shame on you l0l
  2. Oh that's a surprise... All those themes you have mentioned, next to Rey's Theme, have been around for about 40 years now, being featured in 7 movies (with exceptions of course), countless games and other SW related stuff. It's only natural they are easily recognizable by anyone familiar with Star Wars universe. Rey's Theme, on the other hand, has been with us for what? 5 months? Just wait until Episodes 8 and 9 come out, Rey's Theme gets expanded and presented in even more arrangements... Then wait 10 more years and test your friends again. Please post your results then. I am really looking forward to this.
  3. Are you sure you shouldn't blame mastering/mixing/whatever department for the sound of the soundtrack? Because performance-wise it's top notch...
  4. Truth be told I like most of the music from Star Wars universe, so I will be content as long as new pieces are created by all those talented composers.
  5. While Griskey's KOTOR 2 is very much to my liking and themes are indeed memorable I didn't get "wow sounds like Williams" effect playing the game back in the day. It's simply a solid game soundtrack. His orchestrations and writing are thin (EDIT: in comparison to Williams), especially in battle music, which feels pretty... empty? I find Haab much better fit as "the best person (other than JW) to do Star Wars music". As you wrote he gets Williams' aesthetics right, like nobody else I have heard. It's a shame you have memory problems as far as his music goes.
  6. Very disappointing. Too bad they didn't bother to play Rey's Theme or something new from The Force Awakens, instead playing some hideous arrangement of Force Theme mixed with material that was not even in Star Wars. Thank you for posting!
  7. I have found it quite interesting - maybe you will too!
  8. Those two are enjoyable tracks! Yeah - Rohan inspiration is quite obvious, yet it never spoiled the pleasure of listening to the tracks featuring it for me.
  9. Hey guys! If you like Chopin, Revolutionary Etude, Fantasie Improptu and romantic orchestral writing give it a try! It's quite an amazing arrangement by one and only Anze Rozman!
  10. Hello there guys! I would like to present to you soundtrack I very much love. It was composed around 2006 by Pierre Langer and Tilman Sillescu (one of my favorite composers, and I don't mean video games industry, that ghetto!!!) from Dynamedion studios and performed by live orchestra from Germany. It has been constant resident on my playlist over the years. Sadly YouTube doesn't represent well amazing recording quality engineers and players have achieved, but it gives good idea about music itself. I would be delighted if you would spend few minutes of your lives to give it a try! Here are some examples: 1. Theme that is present throughout many tracks on soundtrack: 2. Few subjectively very interesting selections: Plain in Oblivion is especially gorgeous... Let it build up! 3. Orcs themes!: 4. Some battle music: Very interesting metrum changes here: And that's just a part of the whole thing. If you liked what you heard you will also like the rest - here is playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0CC79C4595051A5F. To those that took time to listen big THANK YOU. P.S. Those guys also created music to the first part of the game and it's add-ons. If you don't mind samples (VSL Symphonic Library+some custom choir libraries from what I hear in that case) you will surely enjoy amazing music they composed there too: Spellforce 1 playlist, Spellforce: Breath of Winter playlist, Spellforce: Shadow of the Phoenix playlist. zaddini
  11. ??? ??? Can't quite tell if you are being serious, but if you are please do tell me why those examples suck.
  12. I'm sure he'd be quite ashamed of his own writing!
  13. I wasn't a big fan of The Book Thief soundtrack when it was released, but I gave it place in my playlist and then, after some time, in my heart. Now I would say I like it alot! It has amazing main theme, few great secondary themes and gorgeous bitter-sweet writing all over it.
  14. Because... What? Jewish director? It is silly to write without hearing the score indeed...
  15. What kind of mentality is that? If he wrote better score he should have won no matter what... And he surely did.
  16. Here is something, I hope, interesting for you guys. Gordy Haab talks about various things, including how he did get started in the industry, his composition process (Yee! Pencil and Paper + orchestration!), SW:Battlefront soundtrack, LSO and mostly about Force Awakens soundtrack. Although at times I wished host would shut up, or was absent at all in fact, I think you will enjoy it: http://www.starwarsreport.com/2016/01/04/podcast-the-force-awakens-score-with-composer-gordy-haab-swr-203/ Better late than never!
  17. Let's assume the week is over. Please upload it somewhere, sir! Don't let the unfortunate ones, that couldn't hear it live, suffer anymore. Ease the pain!
