  1. His appearance in EoT2 was because the recently-departed Exec Producer had a massive obsession with him (just read his "Writer's Tale" book, you'll see what I mean), so much so that in interviews before Matt Smith was announced, he kept proposing Tovey as the Eleventh Doctor. I really don't think the actor was *that* good as Frame. Sorry I'm being so grumpy.
  2. I'm also a fan of Always and to a lesser degree Far & Away. And both movies have wonderful scores, IMHO. I'm usually not a fan of scores where a lot of it is light, sparse, slow "drama" underscore, but the scores in both those movies just absolutely work for me. Always... love Richard Dreyfuss, sweet to see Audrey Hepburn, the cinematography as mentioned is gorgeous. The comedy and romance at times feels a bit "forced" but never insanely so, just a bit... "fakey" sometimes. Far & Away... as mentioned, Tom & Nicole are actually pretty good in this. It feels like it should be one of those "just a bit too long" films, but it never feels like it drags or is too long for me. Also some very beautiful cinematography in this one as well. And always a hoot to see Chief O'Brien from Star Trek.
  3. Lately, the Superman theme when I'm holding my 4-and-a-half-month-old baby girl and fly her around. :-) Perhaps it should be the Supergirl theme because she's a girl, but I like JW's Superman theme better, sorry.
  4. Excellent. I'm glad you've gotten the message.
  5. A-ha! I've got it! I bet it was "Obi-Wan Faces Droids". Wonder if these misspellings come from someone trying to read JW's (or someone else's) handwriting on manuscripts.
  6. Hmmm. Granted, not a good episode. But worse than "Genesis"? Worse than the crew devolving into various creatures? IMHO I disagree.
  7. That makes perfect and completely obvious sense. Especially remembering R2-D2 was named via "Reel 2, Dialogue 2"...
  8. What, pray tell, is worse than "Genesis"? Or were you saying "The Alternative Factor" isn't the worst TOS ep?
  9. I'm guessing the "sic" is supposed to be the from the Latin... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sic I'm not sure what "Obi-Wan Fares Droids" was supposed to have been. "Fires"? "Fights"? So "sic" was used to indicate "Hey, that's what it said on the sheet, even though it may be wrong." No idea 'bout the "M" either.
  10. Yippee! Got an email confirming BTTF order was fulfilled, and my order status shows status "Billed", and under shipping shows "actual" of 12-2-09. I think mine's on the way!
  11. Yeah, I got in through a side door and placed my order. Hooray! Watch this one arrive before my BTTF which I ordered one week ago. If only I'd checked the JWFan forums on Monday instead of waiting til Tuesday! D'oh!
  12. It's about 12:14pm PST... "GIVE US JUST A FEW MINUTES SITE GOES LIVE FOR ORDERS AT 12 NOON (PST)" C'mon, I'm ready! Lemme in!
  13. I used to love movie novelizations! (Perhaps influenced by my massive Doctor Who Target Books novelization collection...) Usually I liked them when they expanded and embellished stuff and had stuff that wasn't in the movies. Like Star Trek II and III especially. The first two Star Wars were pretty good, ROTJ was pretty much a standard script-to-screen with less notable "extras" than the first two. Also some special-to-me novelizations like "The Black Hole" and "The Last Starfighter". Nowadays I pretty much ignore novelizations, though I did get the Star Wars prequels and KOTCS. Oh, and the new Star Trek. I do remember the BTTF novelizations, in particular how Part II came out before the movie (as did ROTJ, so hard not to read those before I saw the movie). They were OK.
  14. Heck yeah! If you're a fan of the film, you gotta get that soundtrack, especially if it's on sale!
  15. Huh. Looking at my Intrada order, under "View", in the area for "Shipping" it says "Date: 11/24/09 Actual". The word "Actual" is clickable with a "What's this?" tooltip. But when I click on "Actual", a blank pop-up, erm, pops up. Hmm. My gut says it doesn't mean it actually shipped on 11/24/09, especially considering the "Pending Fulfillment" status. Oh well.
  16. It's not so much the reuse of "elements" and such that I find so annoying. It's the blatant reuse of frickin' melodies that irritates me. Avatar using the Glory melody is just one recent example. IMHO it's a big difference between using, for example, a specific flavor of percussion hit/motif/whatever versus using pretty much the exact same melody in a completely different film.
  17. 1 - Pretty sure it's Doctor Who... Thinking "Survival" by Dominic Glynn... track title, who knows... "Dinner Time" apparently. Oh well. 2 pts 2 - Raiders March, obviously... but which one? Orchestration/etc. sounds "Raiders"-ey. I'm going with "Raiders". JW of course. Ah, crap, KOTCS. Close. 2 pts 3 - We Didn't Start the Fire, Billy Joel, off of "Storm Front". 3 pts 4 - Elvis. Treat Me Like a Fool. Off of "1"? Dang, nope, 2nd to None. 2 pts 5 - They Might Be Giants... Flood... track name, trickier... "Hearing Aid"? Yes! 3 pts 6 - Some filmscore... Bond? David Arnold... which one... A Brosnan, I think... "Tomorrow Never Dies" is my guess, but no idea on track title. Dang. "Die Another Day" (no wonder I didn't recognize it), "Some Kind of Hero". 1 pt 7 - "Are You and Me Gonna Happen" by E, album "A Man Called (E)". 3 pts 8 - "Scorpio" song from "The Simpsons". Alf Clausen? Hmm, nope, iTunes says Sally Stevens. "Go Simpsonic with the Simpsons". 2 pts 9 - "Tied to the Whipping Post", Allman Brothers Band, I'm guessing from Freaks & Geeks. Yep! 3 pts 10 - Smiths, "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want"... Best I? Yep! 3 pts Total: 24 Average: 2.4 OK having so much fun, here's round 2 from me... 1 - "Doctor Who", "This is Gallifrey", Season 3, Murray Gold. Hmm, weird both rounds started with a "Doctor Who". 3 pts 2 - "Fat Bottomed Girls", Queen, Greatest Hits. Ah, crap, off of Freaks & Geeks again. 2 pts 3 - Percussion-y. Deep. LOTR-ish. Nope, there's some Horneresque Irish pipes. Braveheart, James Horner, no idea of the track. "Sons of Scotland" apparently. 2 pts 4 - Harp. Ah, Bond, John Barry, "You Only Live Twice". Track title, no idea. "The Wedding". 2 pts 5 - "Walking in Your Footsteps" by the Police, Synchronicity. 3 pts 6 - Bond, gunbarrel, John Barry. "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". Close, title is "This Never Happened To The Other Feller". Knew it wasn't just "Gunbarrel". 2 pts 7 - Dang, I should know this one. John Barry, I think. Whoa, nope. "Young Indiana Jones Chronicles Vol 2", "Albert Schweitzer, Prisoner of War (The Congo 1917), Joel McNeely". 0 pts 8 - Something from LOTR. So Howard Shore. I'm guessing "Return of the King", no idea of the track. Aw crap, "The Caves of Isengard" from "Fellowship". 1 pt 9 - JW. Star Wars Episode III - Revenge of the Sith. What's the dang track, I know which one this is... Anakin and the Children or something like that? Sigh, nope, "Greivous Travels to Palpatine (Choirless). 2 pts 10 - Hmmm. "Bram Stoker's Dracula", by Woijeich (sp?) Kilar. Can't remember track title. "Lucy's Party". 2 pts Total: 19 Average: 1.9 Getting worse! Better quit!
  18. Seems that Horner goes out of his way to emphasize it for us!
  19. http://store.intrada...f?category=-102 Thank you very much for the info!
  20. Same here, except I ordered mine around midday I believe. I ordered mine midday Tuesday, since I hadn't seen it was announced til then. My order from Intrada still says "pending fulfillment"... Guess I'll be waiting for the "back in stock in 2 weeks" batch. Sigh.
  21. That's one of my favorite little moments in the score, even without the "song" part over the top of it. Very beautiful.
