Time is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it.
Howard Shore, and beyond, the far green Hobbit Complete Recordings and the Music of the Hobbit Films book under a swift sunrise.

Yes, end of an era. Unlike a lot of offspring of famous people, he did his father's legacy proud, and has managed to maintain the integrity of the entire enterprise for decades. This will open up, of course, the endless franchisement of Tolkien, across multiple mediums (as the younger generation has long wanted to do), but I can't help think that something very special has been lost.

In honour of Christopher Tolkien I'll revert back to my old avatar until such time as I deem appropriate.

One could be made to assume the possibility that, with all this buzz generated by the television series, the timing might be right to publish a certain book and/or more music from certain film scores....

I found it somewhat disheartening that Shore and PJ decided to drop the Company theme in any form in the sequels. I know they were going for a "uncharted dangerous lands beyond the Misty Mountains" feel where nothing was supposed to feel familiar and safe but in the process the heroes lost some of their musical identity (whether it would have been Shore's theme or Misty Mountains). We do have the dwarven themes still but something linked to both Bilbo and the dwarves would have been very welcome glimmer of camaraderie and team spirit in the midst of all the darkness and danger the sequels seem to offer almost non-stop.

Hi, it's my first post here, hello to you all

This place seems like my best shot at doing this, so I've got 2 questions for the awesome @Doug Adams:
    1. We know the lyrics for LotR film music come from texts in Quenya, Khuzdul, Black Speech, etc., but the actual lyrics in the tracks quite frequently used only parts of the source texts, often out of order, or even just some syllables of the original words, sometimes not making much sense in the final effect. Were the texts simply edited to suit the music or...? How did the process of turning the source texts into the lyrics look like?
    2. Is your upcoming Hobbit music book going to include lyrics to "non-canon" pieces like the film version of Thorin vs. Azog cue from AUJ? I really, really want to know what that piece's text is about.
