  1. The only reasonable explanation for the delay is a dissatisfaction with the theme. My sources tell me that currently Giachinno and a handful of ghostwriters are working on a new theme--one that captures the modern spirit and sensibilities of Star Wars.
  2. I didn't realize that he met his wife in high school--and she was a vocalist in his band.
  3. No, I am American. You should see the movie. Obviously, it works best if see it first when you are a kid, but it has charm in spades, Henry Thomas and Rachel Friend have a believable innocent/coming-of-age chemistry, and the plot is clever. It was free on Amazon a while back--not sure if it still is. Plus, if you are a Dr. Who fan, it has Katy Manning in it.
  4. If they could have told the story without the stupid robot (which made the film completely science fiction versus the hyperreality that I think they were going for), I could defend it. But, to each their own. One of my favorite childhood movies is Frog Dreaming, and I have never found another person who thinks its good.
  5. It is a brilliant score for a bad film. I would put the movie in contention for JW's worst film post-Jaws (and, no, I am not forgetting Heartbeeps).
  6. JW reflecting on JP: I watched the cut of Jurassic Park with Steven. I was so moved by the picture; I needed to take a walk and collect my thoughts. I met up with him and told him "you are going to need a better composer than me to score this." Steven looked at me sweetly and said, "I know, but they are all extinct."
  7. I always assumed that your thumbnail picture, you were the guy without a beard.
  8. I don't want to be that guy again, but I think the target audience cares far less about JW than we tend to think, and the Disney people know this. I don't think we hear this theme until the premiere (though I would love to be wrong).
  9. That is the most impassioned I have seen Williams conduct in a long time.
  10. I am still waiting for them to release the rest of Schubert's 8th Symphony.
  11. It is not really a rush job. Two weeks is what he would spend on theme for a movie (he has mentioned he spends a couple weeks working all the main themes out first--in this case, one main theme). I think the variations are part of the full suite. Meaning, I would bet that he wrote a one minute intro and maybe outro, and a 3-4 minute suite that will become the concert piece (if he ever chooses to play such things).
  12. I like it. It is sort of way of saying May the 4th is really about John Williams--the true force.
  13. Yes, as the board has speculated, this will be analogous to Adventures of Han as a standalone concert piece. Now whether they actually release the suite, one would think so.
  14. The natural consequence of interrupting Williams's "they're all dead" story.
  15. We will have an answer to that question in one year and a day.
  16. I know it is probably just PR exaggeration, but Holt's comments are how different the theme is have me intrigued.
  17. I would say he spent a half a day writing it. It is what it is, but outside of playing taps, a true solo trumpet piece tends be underwhelming by nature.
  18. A few days ago, I would have said that Williams could not do a better reworking of piece than Prayer for Peace, and then I hear this. The man is on fire--The Fabelmans and Indy could be something really, really special.
