heritage got a reaction from Remco in John Williams returns to Vienna! March 12/13 2022
In Vienna it was the same as in Berlin. Both Orchestras are filled with some Academy Members. It was not only in Berlin. Has everybody see Rainer Honeck in Vienna 2020 ?

On the the other way, many say, the BP is much more suitable for the Williams music because it is the better symphony orchestra. Vienna is better when it comes to play Operas etc. or play with Singers.

And then there is again ASM. I did not like Violin Concertos. And the "sound the bells" is terrible. So the new program in Vienna is by far not so good as in berlin. My opinion...
And ticket prices want be much higher as in berlin, because of ASM. For such a event ASM gets big money and the VP ist not like the BP a foundation. Thats more like a private Club.

I have read, that this is a long problem of the BP. When you conduct your first concert with them, they play never in their best Formation. Then it does no matter whether it is JW or someone else. That is like a Ritual of the BP.

But maybe someone can ask Sarah Willis why they did not play in their best Formation. Maybe she has another answer...

Yes, you have understand. I agree to 100%
No Mayer, Wollenweber, Dohr, Ottensamer, Pahaud, Kashimoto, Kelly, Gössling, Hartmann, Dufour and others is not the BP as we know it. It is a BP B-Orchestra. Thats fact. Because  these are the Stars of that orchestra.

Fact is, that the woodwind section at the JW concert in Berlin has nothing to do with the original BP. You can twist und turn it as you want.

I have seen many classic orchestra. But that a orchestra has changed a whole section with players from other orchestras and Academy players i have never seen....

Never. He has been wanting to conduct the Berlin Phil for a long time and this orchestra consists of world class soloists. What you are saying is akin to going to a 3 michelin star restaurant and ordering from a fantastic burger joint while you are sitting there. Still great, but not what you went to the restaurant for. Their English Horn player, Dominik Wollenweber, is considered the number one player in the world as are both their first oboists, Jonathan Kelly and Albrecht Mayer, not to mention Christophe Hartman, and also their flautists, Mathieu Dufour and Emmanuel Pahud and the always fantastic Andreas Ottensamer on Clarinet or the other players in that section and the bassoons.....  They have 2 principals in each section in case one cannot show up, both not showing up or even the seconds? What? This has never happened..... It is something else and I would love to know what exactly happened. Also when you say you don't care in Maxine isn't there when you go to the LSO, sure because again other members of the LSO are doing it, Here almost half the orchestra were not Berlin Phil members, they were from other orchestras. That's what I am getting at.....
Yes and no, True with Williams, but when I go to see the Berlin Phil playing Williams, I want those soloists, otherwise it is not the Berlin Phil playing......
But many of the players were not in the Berlin Phil, A B or C.... They were from other orchestras. For ALL the oboe section not to be there minus one maybe who took over the English Horn part instead? Same with other sections. What gives?

Exactly! There are many good guitar players out there. But when i book a Clapton show, i want see Clapton and not another excellent unknown guitar player. Or when i book a ticket for the Stones, i want not see an excellent cover band. And so it is with the BP.
But we will never find out, why some good players did not play. I have send a mail to the BP and ask them. They answer only that the BP have around 128 members and not all can play every concert. They change their line up. They have so many programs and concerts, so it is not possible that for example Albrecht Mayer or Emanuel Pahaud  or Stefan Dohr can play every single concert. Some of them have  also solo appearances.

Henry Sitronu: A Soloist is the star of the section. And a Stefan Dohr, Emmanuel Pahud, Mathieu Dufour and Albrecht Mayer are one of the best in the world. If not the best. They are definitely better than the others players. Thats a fact.
But maybe they have no desire for JW. That can be the reason, they have not played. There were also many soloists missing in Vienna last year ?

JW knows not the sound of the best soloists from Berlin. If they had played, JW would never fly to Los Angeles. He would stay in Berlin for the rest of his life

Funny enough the program booklet does not say that the star solo players are not on board for these concerts. They are all listed in the program booklet.
Pawel P.: Not all thats right. But Albrecht Mayer, Stefan Dohr, Andreas Ottensamer,  Emmanuel Pahud and Mathieu Dufour are not to be replaced. In no Orchestra of this world...

JW is on 30th September and October 2 & 3 in Boston. He will conduct the BSO.   I´am absolutely sure when this events will take place, then Berlin will also take place. I think he will fly to Berlin very early to prepare. Maybe after some days rest in Boston . I think he will not fly back to LA because the Boston - Berlin flight is significantly shorter and without switch the plane.
And i think JW will that the Berlin concerts will take place necessarily because its a dream for him to conduct this orchestra, similar to the Vienna Orchestra last year.

I was a little disappointed because many Berlin Philharmonic star players were not on board. I haven´t seen Dashin Kashimoto (violin),  Ludwig Quandt (Cello), Mathew McDonald (Bass),  Emmanuel Pahud and Mathieu Dufour (Flute), Albrecht Mayer (Oboe),  Andreas Ottensamer (Clarinet), Stefan Dohr (Horn) to name just a few. Have we seen only the second Guard of the Berlin Philharmonic ? I think a little bit..

Well, the Digital Concert Hall has basically every concert of the BerlinPhil and the other stream is just a local radio broadcast with limited (30 day) availability and probably just lossy mp3 quality right? I don't think anyone in their right mind would miss out on the opportunity to make at least a nice CD and digital release out of this. Especially considering the bestselling Vienna album and the BerlinPhil's own label. I'll be surprised if nothing is released within the next 6 months... I'm pretty optimistic in this regard

The program brochure has been published as PDF, for the moment available in German only. Looks like this will also be sold as print version at the concerts for 3.50€.
    https://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/fileadmin/Dateien/Programmhefte/2021_22/BPH_Programmheft_2021_10_14.pdf

A few things mentioned in there:  Intermission will be after Jurassic Park Theme. The saturday concert will be published in the Digital Concert Hall (as expected), after the live broadcast (https://www.digitalconcerthall.com).
It will also be streamed at german radio station "rbbkultur" on the 16th, at 8.03 pm, so can be heard about an hour later than the actual concert on that day. The concert can then be accessed for 30 days through their website (https://www.rbb-online.de/rbbkultur/).

The article about Williams in this program is the one that has been published in their BerlinPhil magazine for some time, as well as on their website. I think this was previously available only in german, but there is now an english version: https://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/en/stories/john-williams-portrait/
Additionally, it contains a short summary of each film of the scores played in the concert, and a biography of John Williams and Bruno Delepelaire.
