  1. Yeah, I mean… it’s Barry, it’s 1979 Moonraker Black Hole era. So I sort of have an expectation in my head. What’s nice is, I haven’t seen the movie, so the one I craft in my mind with John Barry will be awesome. If it was good enough for Mike Matessino’s attention, I was willing to take the risk. And now thanks to my purchase, they will discover the original tapes to the rescored cues from the last act and reissue it in stunning clarity.
  2. Oh this is a long list of regret BTTF 3 - I don’t know what I was thinking The Shadow - I wasn’t familiar enough with it Dick Tracy - I think it was released mid-pandemic and my headspace was all wrong The Edge - I think I was in a collecting lull, maybe focusing more on my other hobbies Peggy Sue Got Married - I had the OST and didn’t feel it at the time. I have since come to love Barry so much more. Die Hard 2 - I think one of the inferior releases of the first Die Hard tainted my opinion Orca - nuff said. Box Sets!!!! - they’re such an investment up front, but just impossible afterwards. The 10 Commandments, the Elmer Bernstein Box, the Rosza box, and yeah the Spartacus set. I regret not picking up the Lethal Weapon box. Hopefully Warner Bros gets their head out of their ass so we can get singles of those scores reissued. I loathe the OOP curse. I wish there were a different business model. Not only do my tastes change over time, but willingness to try things and spending money don’t always align with availability. I also think certain music should always be in print to cultivate new film music fans.
  3. Can’t he write it now? Let’s get er done, people!
  4. Actually it was a blind buy! The price was … acceptable and it’s Barry from an era I really like scoring WWII romance. I’ll let you know how I like it.
  5. I feel ya. I hate how Varese seems to have huge name titles and lets them remain OOP without much hope for reissue. I’d love to see the model change, but it’s really all of the labels. (But in my mind Varese is the worst with reissues).
  6. I’m with @Tallguyon this. I’m here for the thematic stuff, the friendship stuff, the delicate quirky stuff, the emotional stuff. Powell loses me when he brings the entire weight of the orchestra on top of my ears for action cues. Not always, but I know I’m not alone in this opinion. I listen in my car, so maybe I’d have a different opinion on my home stereo, but his are the only scores that have me reaching to turn the volume down.
  7. Yes I think you’re right. The Berlin without speeches and applause was only digital.
  8. Really dig that Final Conflict one.
  9. You’re right! Sounds a lot like the pastoral stuff from Deadly Blessing. Hmmm.
  10. Are there retailers that sell a jewel case version? Skimmed the thread, but couldn’t find an answer.
  11. Looks interesting @Holko Did you delete anything? My first listen was a mixed reaction, and I’ve only seen the film once, so I might be better with something like this. Do you have a measured or quantifiable EQ adjustment, or did you just go by ear?
  12. I’m torn. I really would like to have it as a bottle cap, but if the whole thing is old timey source music without any Hornerisms, then…
  13. With its period ragtime sound it’s atypical Horner. I mean obviously I’m interested, but I don’t know if it would be one I’d return to much.
  14. Wow! Horner’s debut. Historically significant… but I’m not certain it’s something I would listen to.
  15. Is this an exclusive thing, or can we expect to order from DG or other retailers? Comes out to about $100US, which is a lot more than I paid for any other DG Blu-Ray.
  16. I like them both. It is interesting to me that on III, chronologically, he took the same approach as on II, (mostly) adapting Williams for the first 2/3 of the film. But then, once the Evil Superman is vanquished, Thorne give the March one last hurrah, and then totally switches modes to make it (almost) all Thorne for the last act. I particularly love the balloon cue, which is uplifting in and of itself, but also signaling the listener that the score now is shifting to belong to Thorne.
  17. I have the same question. While examining Quartet’s site I thought for a second I somehow didn’t buy the new 2021 release. But yes I did, it just has the different cover art. I rather like it.
  18. I hope to see more of this kind of thing, for vintage animation. I did grow up with the show, and like the earlier GI Joe release, it is missing a few memorable cues. This one, more than the GI Joe. But hopefully there will be more to come.
  19. Yes absolutely. Thorne seemed to really like that little progression. It’s also at 0:40 of Streets of Metropolis, but my favorite is when Thorne combined it with the “Personal” theme in Superman II, here at 2:55
  20. John Nagle is many things… He's Williams, Johnny, Curly, Kevin, Towner… a man you don’t say ‘no’ to.
  21. Not sure if real, but I approve!
  22. That “limited edition of 2,000” is… new. is that a sticker?
