  1. (emphasis mine) That's indeed one thing that struck me as extremely done already in the first film, because it seemed so natural and powerful without being an intrusive effect.
  2. Ok, I mis-remembered. It's not Swedish, rather:
  3. Ok, I didn't read that thoroughly enough, re talking specifically about the expansion process. I don't know what MM talked about at the Superman concert.
  4. Arrow Video are releasing an old favourite that I thought would never see the light of HD: https://www.arrowfilms.com/mute-witness-limited-edition-blu-ray/15310826.html
  5. And if Kilar's Dracula counts, then so does his Ninth Gate. Many do, but so far it mostly eludes me.
  6. And that from the Scandinavians, who created the only pop culture hit song ever to come out of a sex comedy! Steiner!
  7. That's basically what they did with the recent Superman LtP, isn't it?
  8. Williams has written themes for better fan clubs than ours here. But they're all dead.
  9. Is he? Looking him up on IMDb, I've seen one of his films: Der Bockerer, a 1981 drama about an Austrian butcher standing up to the Nazis during their regime not such much out of principle (he's too naive for that), but more out of personal spite. We saw that in school; I remember director Franz Antel being a highly lauded Austrian film maker during my youth and up to his death in 2007 (he was born in 1913, like my grandfather, who if I remember correctly went to school with him), mostly based on this film and I guess a few he made afterwards - before that, he was mainly known as the director of countless sex comedies since the early 50s. Gerhard Heinz's filmography looks very similar (though I can't see in this endless list of any of their earlier films overlap), except that he seems to have stuck with the sex comedies even after Bockerer, when Antel had finally managed to rid himself of them. They collaborated on three sequels, the last three films of each of them (I haven't seen those). The only other filmography entry of his I recognise is two episodes of the famed weekly documentary series Universum, which has been showing on ORF (the Austrian national public TV station) every Tuesday since 1987. According to Wikipedia he's also written Schlager songs earlier in his career. None of that makes it sound like he's particularly distinguished or well known. Where do you know him from?
  10. "Fuck sympathy! I don't need your fuckin' sympathy, man, I need my fucking johnson!" - "What do you need that for, Dude?"
  11. Effects shots, certainly. Some of the real shots are surprisingly ugly, despite the split diopter bonus.
  12. Yes, I've mostly stuck to the suite myself. But partly I think that's because it's an album condensation of the full scores that's very long on its own, but at the same time presents only a fragment of the full scores. My hope is that the complete scores might present a better listening experience on their own by being both shorter and more coherent individually than the longer full season album.
  13. That would have been the cheaper option for me, actually. And without the expected customs hassle.
  14. I've always assumed it's an intentional orchestration effect. I like it.
  15. I doubt there's 7 billion "normal" people anyway, for any sufficiently exclusive definition of "normal" (which is usually the point of the classification).
  16. It was a series of commercials that all used music to great effect. This was the first (and best) one: I have Previn/Tortelier, but I should probably try out some others as well.
  17. Sorry to cause angst! I was worrying about it before you mentioned it. CDs seem to be very un-Mondo anyway. From what I understand, they're primarily about vinyl and maybe digital music, and only offer CDs on those rare occasions where they actually have exclusive physical content (rather than doing an LP version of something that already existed on CD - which I believe they do?). This is reflected in their shipping options, which confused me a lot: There's a "Vinyl Only Shipping" option and there's "DHL International Shipping", which is significantly more expensive - but "Vinyl Only" also uses DHL for international orders, and it was available and even pre-selected for my CD-only order. I checked my order from last year and that also used vinyl shipping (for only CDs), so I figured that works and chose it again this time. And I think I figured out what it actually means: Physical music for Mondo is vinyl. They sell vinyl (=music), posters, and collectibles. If you order anything other than music, you probably have to select DHL, but if you only order music, you can use the vinyl option, because whoever set up the shipping configuration believed that any and all music they sold would be on vinyl. Because the signed one was more expensive (was it?) or already sold out or you simply didn't want it?
  18. No joke, I'm already worrying about that. Given how quickly this sold out, I wonder if there's any chance of Mondo bringing it back? Apparently they have a new batch of Oppenheimers coming up, but I don't know if that's because the first one was limited and they're doing a second run, or if they simply hadn't pressed as many copies as their licence allows.
  19. "Why do I fall in love with every woman I see who shows me the least bit of attention?" "Well, technically speaking, the operation is brain damage, but it's on a par with a night of heavy drinking. Nothing you'll miss." "Sand is overrated. It's just tiny, little rocks." (Take that, Anakin) "Meet me in Montauk."
  20. I had a JW dream last night. I was tasked, together with a friend, to return something (I can't remember what) to JW's house. When we got there in the morning, he was still asleep, so I decided to browse through his CD collection. I found an album with something by Mendelssohn and also a suite from The Reivers on it and decided to borrow it. My friend had to leave, but I was still there when Williams got up at 9:30 and had breakfast. I think he offered me some. We talked a bit (I forget about what) and he told me come back next day. I was going to next morning, but something (can't remember) came up and I didn't get around to it until the afternoon. JW was still there, but I mostly talked a bit with my uncle, who was also living there (at that point, JW's house had a vague resemblance to my grandparents'). I think the dream was a bit more substantial, but that's all I could remember when I wrote it down this morning.
