  1. It's more or less true, at least. Apparently Ligeti heard from friends that the new Kubrick movie was using his music. He hadn't received any money. Later, he went to court and got at least some money out of it in the aftermath. He always said though that he thought Kubrick was a brilliant director, and the film and use of his music were great as well.
  2. That would be an interesting take-off, since it sounds nothing like Sing, Sing, Sing.
  3. It's the most famous bad-spelling (ok, not grammar) word on JWFan.
  4. I guess you're too young to know the meaning of "lier". Deep Blue (George Fenton)
  5. Now what did you get that for? Does it give information you've forgotten?
  6. As for liking Zorro, you'll have to get permission from the Holst Foundation first.
  7. What's there to see? Oh look, all these pictures!
  8. The album is missing too much truly great stuff. The track order is fine, but the content is too incomplete. The boot doesn't have the best sequencing, but boy does it have some great music that's not on the original. (And it's still missing some minor bits; I should listen to the iso score soon - just recently got the DVD).
  9. (Copying my message from MM.com) I admit I don't know much more by Ligeti than the obvious bits - Atmospheres and Lux Aeterna, and what other snippets Kubrick used in his films. But I've always been quite impressed with those and still intend to hear more. Sadly, the newspapers don't even get their facts straight for a prominent and "respected" composer like Ligeti. Several of them reported that he wrote the soundtrack for 2001, to which users commented that his music was rejected.
  10. Hook or Philosopher's Stone, though Last Crusade is a strong contender.
  11. I knew that, though I didn't when I watched Babe. It's a great symphony though.
  12. Great score. The first time I heard it was the chaconne in concert. What's Saint-Saens got to do with Russia? Start one! Starship Troopers (Basil Poledouris)
  13. That's an excellent interpretation, actually. Is there more of this? A CD perhaps?
  14. I don't remember the music, but I remember liking it. Here's a great one: The Englishman Who Went Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain, by Stephen Endelman.
  15. The question is, was this coordinated with Doyle, or was he perhaps just as annoyed that he didn't get to hear those pieces? In any case, he seems to be a regular film music concertgoer. I believe he was sighted at one of Goldsmith's LSO concerts, too.
  16. I always found it very fitting in CE3K. And there's that one moment where it's played in its "normal" rhythm.
  17. Perhaps he has a very funny voice? In this case, it probably wouldn't work.
  18. Well, Ventrillo doesn't provide a Linux version, so that's out of the question as far as I am concerned. Teamspeak seems to do, though I'm not sure about the license and haven't tried the client. I also don't know how standardised it is. Skype provides binaries for various platforms, but they're Linux support (and at least at one time their Mac support, from what I've read) was very poor, and the protocol is proprietary, so while I'm using it, I'm really not happy about it (see here for some good reasons). I don't know the Teamspeak situation here, and I don't know any alternatives either (though there seem to be several more or less popular open VOIP protocols). Anyway, as far as I'm concerned, text chats are the best most of the time. I don't have to talk on those (I rather dislike phones as well), plus I can keep listening to music. And for team chats, to my knowledge nothing beats good old IRC. Stable, works everywhere, and people can use a client of their choice. Well, so much from my side... basically, the message board is enough for me anyway.
