Wojo 2,453
I just pre-ordered L'Impero del Sole (Empire of the Sun) from Screen Archives Entertainment, by Angelo Francesco Lavagnino. It's a 1000 limited edition soundtrack to a movie I'd never heard of, but the sound clips sounded very interesting, and I wanted to try something completely different. Koray Savas 2,251
Eh...I'll wait and hope for an album then - or is it good enough to warrant the download?Usually if something gets a download only release, that means it won't get a CD release. It's "cheaper" as a "download" anyway. I say go for it.

Ironically I received "A new Hope" just yesterday...needed something to make waiting easier, and I never cared so much about this cd (I own the anthology, so there's not much new material for me on the Special Edition cds - the sound seems to be better, though). I purchased mine seperately throughout the years.Back in 1997 the Special Edition CDs were released individually every two weeks to coincide with each of the SE Movies being released, if my memory serves me right. When the scores were re-released again back in 2004 they came individually or in a box set. Neimoidian 14
Quantum of Solace. I still can't get enough of it...Would you recommend the score to Casino Royale? It depends... Casino is very uneven score. It has many highlights (way more than QoS) and it's based on a very good theme, which QoS lacks.... On the other hand it has several extremely dull moments ("Bond Looses/Wins It All" and "The Bad Die Young" cues shouldn't have been placed on the album) and some uninspired/accidental action cues that are also much too noisy ("Stairwell Fight", "The Switch" and "Fall of the House on Venice"). The last thing is there is no song on the album.Quantum is lighter (sound-wise) and more original as far as the Bond sound and Arnold's sound are concerned. There are no highlights like these in Casino, still the music sounds better than most of the action scores thesedays (save for Giacchino and Powell). There are no as many dull cues as were in Casino. The action music is bondesque in arnoldesque way, but it's also less heavy and less loud than one from the previous installment. There are few lush-string Barry-like moments and most of the establishing cues sound modern or exotic. The softer cues are atmospheric, but in good way, they never become boring (to my ear at least). The theme from the song is present in the score, but not in the way it was in Casino. There is no big and bold statement of James Bond theme either. There is song on an album though (however it's nowhere as good as the previous). In other words, as far as listening experience is concerned, I think QoS - arguably - lends itself better for it. I know, however, that many will disagree with it, so I think you should try listening to both in the first place and then decide which suits you best. I like both scores anyway. Wojo 2,453
$26 or so. The "expanded/promotional motion picture score" was a CD-R with a single track at 55:28 long. And most of the tracks are glitchy and at half the volume of what they need to be. I knew it was too good to be true.
