Panthera 0
I didn't even realize he had so many concert works until recently. What are your favorite? If this topic already exists I couldn't find it. Plus, opinions constantly change.
Ray Barnsbury 8
Without looking through a list of Williams' concert pieces, I'd have to say one of his Olympic themes. Probably Summon the Heroes. There's so much going on in that piece, and it's just so uplifting and exuberant!Ray Barnsbury
nightscape94 965
I adore his Violin Concerto as performed by either Mark Peskanov or Gil Shaham, I think they're both good. The "Elegy for Cello and Orchestra" is beautiful. Others of note: "The Five Sacred Trees" which is his Bassoon Concerto. "Heartwood" which is like a symphonic poem for Orchestra and cello."Soundings" (Still waiting for a high quality, official version of this )Tim

King Mark 3,631
The Olympic Spirit (why is this one forgotten so much?) It's not forgotten. For me it's "middle of the road" fanfare, like Winter Games Fanfares or Jubilee 350The "low end " fanfares, which I find annoying, are:Pops on the March, probably one of Williams worse pieces. Were lookin good isn't great eitheri

Pelzter 0
My favorites are definitly his Cello pieces, like Elegy for Cello and Orchestra, and his Cello Concerto (especially Theme & Cadenza and Song).I haven't heard anywhere near all his concert pieces however--Pelzter
Neimoidian 14
From what I have heard I liked The Soundings, Song for the World Peace and Five Sacred Trees the most. I can't get myself into violin and flute concertos, they are to difficult for me so far. I also wish to hear a good recording of The Soundings, but I am not really sure whether this will ever be released. It would be pity if not. The final movement is a pure exhilaration. Joni Wiljami 1,206
I don't count Williams' fanfares to the concert works(although I love them) , so I'llchoose the Bassoon Concerto , Five Sacred Trees. It's brilliant.

Jeshopk 8
I'm horn player but I never had a chance to hear Williams' horn concerto. ^_^I've got a good recording of it. Check your inbox in some minutes.I really like Heartwood, the piece for Cello and Orchestra. It sounds to me to be a self portrait of Williams, of course through the metaphor of an old tree, the last of its kind. It is not as "virtuoso" show off as the concerto or the Elegy. The orchestra plays a greater part of the piece. Very "deep" music.
