What is the last Television series you watched?

No, I'd rather they just left the tedious soft porn to the actual porno.

Put it another way: if I was watching some actual porn featuring gorgeous girls getting their kit off and lowering themselves onto manpole for some hot gyration kinetics; only for the action to be rudely interrupted by men being unceremoniously beheaded, battling with swords and shields whilst participating in deviously plotted one-upmanship; I'd be really fucking annoyed, and turned off.

Whereas Incanus would no doubt be positively enthralled, I'm sure :wizard:

GoT s3e4

easily the strongest episode so far this season and perhaps even one of the best overall as well. some spot on dialogues, storylines progressing in just perfectly paced, interesting ways (especially loving brienne/jaime braime) and an awesome ending. I've completely lost interest in theon's storyline, though, for some reason. it just bores me to death.

maybe I should start watching one episode a week from now on. don't want it to end!

So sex and nudity ONLY has a place in porn for you?

No, I'd just prefer it if it didn't feel so obligatory and clockwork reliable as it is in GoT. It's gratuitous and juvenile. That might work for yourself and horny teenage boys, but I just wish they'd spent that wasted five minutes on genuinely interesting and important character development instead. We only have fifty minutes in an episode, lots to cover - oh wait MORE TITS AND ARSE REQUIRED!

By the way Sharon Stone was hot as hell in Basic Instinct wasn't she? Phwoar what a body! Yeah, she was really friggin' sexy in that erotic thriller.

I've completely lost interest in theon's storyline, though, for some reason. it just bores me to death.

Have you gotten to his tits and arse part yet?

Go gyrate yourself Quint.

Nowadays maturity comes from showing disembowelments, gruesome deaths and beheadings from close range and dwelling on the gore and of course from gratuitous sex and nudity because that's what life is really all about. Oh and put a few tons of cursing on top of that and you have got the grittiest most realistic TV/movie ever. I am all like "Whoa, that could be from my life! So real! So amazingly tangibly real! That's just what real people would do in a real world."

Sorry I get all full of blood lust and uncontrollable rage and want to decapitate people when someone mentions GoT and nudity in the same sentence. ;)

In all seriousness though, Game of Thrones will never be the sublime classic it might/should have been. Massively popular is good enough though I suppose, even if it'll never rank alongside The Sopranos and Breaking Bad in the annals of great television.

Yes in part I have to agree with you. But it is also such a difficult sprawling piece of fiction to adapt that I have applaud the makers of the series for trying to pull it off, which of course they have done to a good extent.

Yes, thankfully the show is by and large extremely watchable and well done. It's just a shame about the self inflicted wounds, imo. Same goes for The Walking Dead.

I am not familiar with the books at all.

Is the sex and violence described in as graphic a detail as it is shown?

I agree with Lee, that much of the nudity is trown in for "shock effect" reasons. But since you expect a sex scene or two at least every other ep, you become used to it. The best use of nudity so far has been in non-sex scenes

Mellisandre giving birth to a wraith, or even better Daenerys emerging from the pyre at the end of season one. Thankfully they did not use odd angles or put some-kind of clothing that miraculously survived the fire on her. Those are scenes where showing nudity worked, had some artistic reasons and made for a better scene..

As for GoT being great TV.

Basically it's a soap opera painted on a very large canvas. that's why it's so addicting. Does that make it less the great TV? I don't know.

It caught me in a way Mad Men never did though.

The nudity within context scenes I have no issue with, it's perfectly justifiable. I'm just not into pointless titillation in serious drama, that's all. It's distracting, it breaks the spell. What's so fucking difficult to understand about that?

Maybe because I'm Dutch I'm more used to it.

I thought Theon groping every chick he sees was over the top and done for the ratings until I realised it showed him as a weak, undisciplined boy, unlike John Snow for instance. So I would say that has context. Most of the other nudity is just simply aimed at Americans who aren't used to seeing tit's,assess...sorry, arses, and an occasional cock on TV.

Season 3, Ep 4.

Daenerys raised hell by "buying" 8000 Unsullied having them kill their masters and setting them free. After being a whining diva in season two, she suddenly is cool again!

There's a brilliant shot of her with dragon fire in the background. Simply, but fierce looking

Should have been?

That's such a fanboy term? I never expected that of you.

Whatever you do don't Google the show.

There's a moment in the penultimate episode of S3 which is jaw dropping. It'd be a shame to spoil it, as I think BloodBoal and Jason did. Frankly, I think it's possibly the single greatest scene I've ever seen in television drama. That thing was Shakespearean.

Well yes, there's moments of greatness woven throughout, but it always let's itself down so casually imo. I wish it wouldn't do that.

There's literally one poor episode in BB (the fly one); although I understand I'm one of the few who actually didn't like it. Others claim it to be one of the best of the lot.

Yes, that show is astonishingly tight in that regard.

I didn't hate the fly episode. But it is kind of pointless, yeah.

Apparently it had something to do with money being short.

Anyway, 26 days 14 hours 20 minutes and 50 seconds till next episode!

Yeah. From Wikipedia:

While attempted with the episode "4 Days Out" in the second Season of Breaking Bad, the Season 3 episode "Fly" only features the leading actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul (plus a few extras) and takes place almost exclusively in the secret laboratory they use to cook meth.[10] Series creator Vince Gilligan has acknowledged this as a bottle episode, but also explained that the limited setting and cast allowed for a slower pace and deeper exploration of character traits and motives: "Even if financial realities didn't enter into it, I feel as a showrunner that there should be a certain shape and pace to each season, and the really high highs that you try to get to at the end of a season — the big dramatic moments of action and violence, the big operatic moments you're striving for — I don't think would land as hard if you didn't have the moments of quiet that came before them. The quiet episodes make the tenser, more dramatic episodes pop even more than they usually would just by their contrast."[11]

In episodic television, the term bottle episode refers to an episode produced inexpensively and restricted in scope to use as few non-regular cast members, effects, and sets as possible. Most bottle episodes are shot on sets already built for other episodes, frequently the main interior sets for a series, and consist largely of dialogue or scenes for which no special preparations are needed. The Star Trek cast and crew call this a "ship-in-a-bottle" episode, which is where the name originated.

really? noooooo! that's spoilery enough. now I have sky-high expectations! and I don't like having high expectations. hate it, in fact.

but yeah, I googled one of the characters a few days ago and the top searches were "characters name+death/dies" :( never again.

Agreed, Quint already said too much. I don't understand his mentality at all. Just let people enjoy the show without knowing ANYTHING, is that too much to ask?

And yes, those not yet caught up with the show - simply don't google it AT ALL! I know it's temping to read more about the characters, but man, even on an otherwise safe page people will ruin things in the comments, etc. I made that mistake a few times and it sucked

What's even worse is that after getting fully caught up on the show, I googled some things and was only reading pages about the show - not the books - but still got things ruined for me by people mentioning what happens in future books in comments. Dah!!

I am avoiding reading about the books, the show etc etc. I'm even careful googling character names for typing purposes.

But the show has years to go, so It will be hard to stay completely in the dark.

You know what the biggest difference is between GoT and LOTR? Seeng FOTR made me want to read the book. I don't have any feeling I should read the Fire & Ice books now that I'm watching GoT.

I love it, I really do, but it's just plotting and intrigue and scheming set in Middle Earth.

The show speaks to my base instinct of being entertained, surprised and occasionally delighted, but little else.

I've read the first couple of books and I have to say the show is pretty close. The first book almost reads like an annotated expanded screenplay.

Are the sex and violence depicted as graphically in the books?

That kinda makes reading the books a moot point, I guess.

One of the greatest draws about GoT is the "what's gonna happen next" factor. In that way it's a higher quality version of Lost, Prison Break or 24.

reading the books would spoil that. I'm at this point not sure that after I've seen all the eps and I know how it ends, if I'll ever return to it.

WTF are you talking about? I've revealed sod all. I simply said something great happens later on and to avoid Googling it. That could mean literally any number of things or nothing at all. I was just expressing caution. Get of my back LeBlanc.

Well that's your own stupid fault for being a dumb fool. Zero sympathy.

I read the first book afterwards and it was a waste of time. Pretty much rather carbon copy of what I'd already seen.

If any of you have a Facebook account I'm sure that big event you're all talking about as already been spoiled. I haven't even seen a single episode and I know what happens. Reminds me of the LOST days when you couldn't even trust your own idiotic friends.
