What Is The Last Film You Watched? (Older Films)

Even though Jason overstates his point by referring to Star Wars as a low budget indie film, which it never was. He is essentially correct.

It was the 70's, a different time. They didn't plan a whole franchise ahead of time back then.

They made a movie, and if it was successful enough....they made another one.

John Williams gave Star Wars (not Episode 4, or A New Hope. The film was never called that in 1977) just the kind of score he thought it needed without worrying or caring much about a potential follow-up.

Aren't you forgetting the distribution costs 20th Century Fox had to make, Drax?

What have these things to do with independent movies?

The Butler starts well and keeps it up for a long time. We feel for Forest Withaker and his journey, but during the last hour the film gets bogged down in a hasty, fragmentary enumeration of highlights in "recent" American history. All actors did a very good job, especially the Gaines family (Who knew Oprah Winfrey had it in her?! ;)), but the idea of famous actors portraying the presidents was probably not such a good one. 6/10

One thing left to say: Remains Of The Day > The Butler

That's what's always pissed me off about SW. Droids are often dismissed as nothing more than electrical appliances that talk or beep. But Star Trek put a spotlight on the big questions of advanced mechanical sentience. Which is why Star Trek is better than everything.

It's better than everything but only in world that exists of The Bold And The Beautiful and Godzilla.

Star Wars didn't even tackle the blatant racism in Mos Eisley where droids aren't allowed in bars!

Maybe it's time to do it. Make something topical. They probably have "flesh fairs" on Tatooine too.

Well it's certainly better than all the shit the kids love these days like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad or whatever other trendy rubbish is all the rage these days.

Only Trekkies think that way.

No one mourns for the droids that died on Dantooine!

We don't mourn when we throw away our toothbrush either. That is what Star Wars is teaching us. They are just droids. C3PO isn't working properly? Get a new one!
