Howard Shore's An Unexpected Journey (Hobbit Part 1)

Because the ascending wizard line is a simple ascending minor scale (E-F#-G-A-B-C), and the accompanying string figure that you gave the time stamp for is a simple, here it comes, arpeggio of a minor chord (Bb minor here, Bb-Db-F-Gb) with an added flattened sixth, stating more Weakness And Redemption than any wizard theme.

To think we've been deprived of another great travelling montage featuring wonderful New Zealand vistas set to another beautiful Shore composition...you better be saving that for the super extended AUJ PJ!

Any shot in real environment is welcome! A rarity sadly in these films.

I don't think we've been deprived of any travelling montage. I think that this shot was originally in the The World Is Ahead travelling montage, before PJ added the campfire scene at the beginning of AUJ (as originally, the Azanulbizar flashback was going to be a Beorn's house). Maybe PJ shortened the montage because of that.

I assume you are saying that originally they would have gone from "The World is Ahead" as it is in the film, with this shot included, and then going into the farmhouse scene?

To Find Our Long-Forgotten Theme

A Hobbit movie essay, discussing the absence of the "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" theme from the second and third films

Ah well at least this time it is not by Fredrick Limoncello or whatever the young composer's name is who complained about it and the inappropriateness of Hedwig's theme as the main theme of the Harry Potter films.

Still, can't hate the guy because of this:

However, giving it the title "Misty Mountains" is an inaccuracy. The song was only called "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" originally because that's the first line in its lyrics. The song isn't really about the Misty Mountains; it's about the Lonely Mountain of Erebor. The fact that the end-credit song built around its melody is called "The Song Of The Lonely Mountain" only drives that point in deeper.

Maybe he saw one of my posts about that.

You shouldn't get stuck on names. It is dangerous.

And anyone who knows anything about The Hobbit didn't for a minute get stuck on the title of the song or associate it with the Misty Mountains as a location. At least I didn't. It was clearly a quest theme. After all the Misty Mountains are used in the refrain when the rest of the song speaks of the treasures of Erebor, Smaug's attack and the dwarven wish to reclaim their homeland.

I still think it should have been using during the battle with the spiders and the forest river chase, then finally replaced by House of During starting in Lake-town.... BUT still should have had a final appearance in BOFA somewhere towards the end, maybe either during Bilbo and Bofur's private convo, or during Bilbo/Thorin's moment as Thorin dies.

And yet, most people buy the lousy explanation that the theme isn't used in DOS onwards because the Misty Mountains are now behind the Dwarves!

Well most people are rubes then!

And yeah they should have done a few token renditions to keep fans from revolting.

Good point!

But you have read our Hobbit ravings for 3 years here. Surely enough to drive one mad!

Is it fair to say that after BotFA, not a single question that has arisen from AUJ has been satisfyingly answered?

Should there have been?

It was a troubled production and everyone scrambled to do the best they good. Mistakes were made....

But they don't owe us any explanation.

OK! OK! Sheesh! Stiff! Right!

Are you ready to get back to bashing the Hobbit film fiasco?
