crocodile 9,516 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Well, let's not fool ourselves, this won't be an action packed Doyle in the vein of Frankenstein.Even though, I have to admit his take on Thor was really nice.I really more into his other stuff (like La Ligne Droite), but we'll see...Karol
Richard P 5,118 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I expect this to be in the same vein as Rise of the Planet of the Apes. A score I found completely unremarkable.
Trent B 354 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I expect this to be in the same vein as Rise of the Planet of the Apes. A score I found completely unremarkable.I have to agree with this. This won't be on the same level as The Hunt For Red October and The Sum Of All Fears."Hotly" is a word? Interesting...
crocodile 9,516 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I'm more excited about Oldboy by Roque Banos, coming out at the same time (of which the iTunes samples are very promising indeed).Karol
Jim Ware 636 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I expect this to be in the same vein as Rise of the Planet of the Apes. A score I found completely unremarkable.I have to agree with this. This won't be on the same level as The Hunt For Red October and The Sum Of All Fears."Hotly" is a word? Interesting...There is a big Russian choral piece that is certainly inspired by The Hunt for Red October. The score was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra.
Code 000. Destruct. 0. 4,262 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Russian choral piece? Intriguing. The film itself looks like it could be surprisingly good. Maybe the score will be too.
crocodile 9,516 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 So is it the modern thriller score. Or more of a traditional one? I'd like to know that.Karol
Omen II 1,297 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Jason / Karol, the LSO played two selections from the score at their recent Patrick Doyle 60th Birthday concert in London at the beginning of the month. The cue with the Russian chorus was called Faith of Our Fathers and you can read the programme notes here:http://www.lso.co.uk/images/01_12_Final__low_res__529727b0932bb.pdfI thought the two pieces augured well for the score as a whole. The first featured a Hunt for Red October-style Russian chorus, as Jim points out. Very stirring stuff! Although the two selections performed were traditional orchestral pieces, note the composer's comments about the use of electronics.
Jim Ware 636 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 The choral piece was interesting. The orchestral one....less so.
Muad'Dib 2,016 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 First sample:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMs_oWm3quI Apart from the obvious ostinato string driven opening, the piece is actually quite good! It develops real nicely into a heroic and uplifting mood.Still don't know about the film, but the score seems full of promise.
Jay 45,133 Posted January 7, 2014 Author Posted January 7, 2014 Tim Burden also premiered music from the score on the latest episode of Movie Magic:https://soundcloud.com/timburden/movie-magic-with-alex-heffes
Matt C 572 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 That sample sounds really nice. I think this might be one to check out.
Bilbo 4,260 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 Sounds like it could be good. I'll certainly give the film a go anyway.
Jonesy 55 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I'm really interested in the Russian choral piece and the cue which Michael has posted doesn't sound bad.

A. A. Ron 2,441 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 The theme montage in the latest FSM issue piqued my interest enough that I decided to grab this one. Using a 10% off coupon, I was able to get it in FLAC from HDTracks for only $10.78! Sure beats the $14-$24 + shipping that I would have paid at Amazon/Varese!
