Popular Post Melange 446 Posted April 2, 2016 Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2016 Can you recall any instances of hearing film music while being stuck in a holding queue when calling a company? Recently I was through to my debit card company as there was a problem with online payment. Once I got through, I went through the queue system and was gently massaged by.................. (closed eyes, my head doing that side to side snake movement) Yes yes I get it, the idea is to 'de-stress' the caller and conjure up some kind of luminous sunny environment of - "Now the fight / the pain is now over" free floatiness of Elysium, fruitfull groves, sun drenched days in fields of wheat being gently blown by a breeze (if a cat had been nearby, I would have stroked my hand through its fur to emulate the famous scene while on hold) . Well, it worked to some degree because I soon enough found myself mouthing my possibly wrong interpretation of the singing rather than being overly focused on being kept on hold. Trouble is, I have a feeling that this song may now conjure up not - "Now we are free", but "Now we are in a holding queue". But, I got so much into the Gladiator mood that when I got through and was thanked for my patience, I dabbled with saying.................. "Striking phone call. Now that the people want to know how the call ends........." "I searched the faces of the Gods for ways to be a good customer, to make you proud. But none of my security answers were on your list" Anyway, I'm wondering if this was perhaps the first film music I'd heard while being kept - "On Hold". It is possible that it isn't, but none stand out in memory at the moment. If anyone has examples of John Williams music being used (E.T flying theme, perhaps?) that would be good. I've seen it a few more times, but I've never been able to understand how people can quote anything! The only things that stick with me are various aural and visual trademarks (hardly even the story after a certain amount of time). Oh I don't know, the delivery of the "Busy LIttle Bee" scene was something else, gripping!! Unfortunately, the only clip of it left on YouTube now was uploadedy by - "Crisis Intervention Services", highlighting 'domestic violence' ......and the audio is hugely out of synch too, but it will do..............
