Popular Post Thor 7,504
Wow, cool. I thought I was only one who sang around here! Sounds like an intriguing concept. There are enough Williams songs to fill up at least two or three albums, but this is a great start. Good luck, Martin. I'll certainly check into this when it's out. You sound kinda like Paul Williams, so I hope you've thought about including his Williams songs as well. Oh -- and I prefer your version of "If We Were in Love" over Pavarotti's, actually, as I don't think his voice fit the style of that song very well. We have recorded 12 Songs for the album. Yes, there is one Song with lyrics by Paul Williams. ("Nice to Be Around" from Cinderella Liberty). And a friend of mine wrote lyrics to a Williams instrumental. I hope you will like it.... Bespin, Ricard and Incanus

I don't remember much of what we talked about other than photographing Horner... but these film music concert/symposium/people meeting events always seem like a blur anyway. Speaking of which, Varese have just announced to release a Blu-ray of that Horner concert.

Yeah, that's understandable. We'll have to do another one soon (although I'm skipping this year's Desplat event in Vienna for obvious reasons). I sing solo, but not professionally, and I'm too old to re-boot my career in that direction. I've had some lessons with my mom's cousin, who's the big opera star in Norway -- mostly about technical stuff. I usually only perform at certain small events and obviously karaoke, when opportunity allows. Used to sing in a choir when I was younger -- even with solos. Good times. My preferred style is 'anthems' of various kinds (lots of Disney, some musicals, some rock anthems etc.) because it allows you to try out your range. I'm rather terrible at rock. Yeah, I remember a couple of occasions. It was written for Frank Sinatra back in the day, but he never performed it. There's a decent recording out there; with Michael Feinstein. I'm not too fond of Barbara Streisand's version. pete
Popular Post Miguel Andrade 1,263
"The Same Hello, the Same Goodbye" was part of a song cycle that Sinatra commissioned the Bergmans in the 70's. They wanted to do it with Michel Legrand, but for whatever reason he wasn't available and then went to Williams. They presented the songs to Sinatra, Alan Bergman sung them, I believe, and while Sinatra loved them, never went on to perform. I believe there were 4 songs -- can be wrong, I'm doing this from memory -- but the remaining ones seem to be lost. Feinstein discovered it while working on the first album of his "Sinatra Project" and recorded the surviving song. I'm also not a fan of Streisand, so I do prefer the Feinstein recording, which I do find to be superb. Feinstein also performed the song at Tanglewood with the Boston Pops under the late Erich Kunzel, using an alternate arrangement for full orchestra. Thor 7,504
It would be interesting if someone ever found out why Sinatra never performed it. If it was merely a question of logistics, or something else.
Miguel Andrade 1,263
You know, it's something I find odd at best... Sinatra is said to have loved it, even crying or something, as he felt the lyrics portrayed him perfectly. He had commissioned the whole thing, but then he was getting to old to learn new songs... I think that was either told on the liner notes (which I'm too lazy to check out right now) or in some interview with Feinstein. Very odd story. Popular Post Miguel Andrade 1,263
I've known about Martin's wonderful work for a long time. His singing was first introduced to me by our friend Markus Hable (http://www.jw-collection.de/) and I've been following his work through youtube and facebook since then. Great singer and couldn't be happier that this project is happening! Congratulations Martin, looking forward to the whole thing.
