"Emperor Waltz" from Strauss - "Across the Stars" from Williams

Is anybody familiar with Johann Strauss's "Emperor Waltz"?

There's a very brief moment in "Across the Stars" that impresses me to no end. Just one of those little magical JW touches. And it's a little similar to what Strauss did in "Emperor Waltz."

Anybody know what I'm talking about? :D

The first part is performed a tad too fast. Otherwise a very good performance too.

It's a waltz not a lullaby!

PS: I've changed the video... the first one was not complete. grrr

I cannot hear the Emperor Waltz any more without thinking of this:

It's why I never complain about the food in restaurants.

What a ripoff. I'm done with Williams. I'll try James Horner instead.

Good luck with that!

Listen to the whole piece. You'll notice it, if you know Across The Stars well.

I know the piece and never noticed anything similar to Across the stars.

Josh I think you have too much spare time!

No, I just know the orchestral scores of both pieces. Let me guess: you don't.

If you don't notice it, that's fine. I was just wondering whether anybody else noticed it.....

I also don't hear any similarities to "Across the Stars". What am I missing?

Did you read my OP? It's a little musical touch, a technique. Very noticeable in both pieces.

I played emperor waltz almost every year for the past 20...never noticed the Across the star reference. If I was to compare every piece by every composer to another composer I would go crazy. Every composer has been influenced by another. Doesn't matter what century.

Oh yeah, just finished playing 12 Nutcrackers. The similarities between Tchaikovsky's Trepak and JW Home Alone are minimal at best. Both fast and in 2/4 time. Pretty much it.

JW is definitely influenced but doesn't steal has blatantly as others. He's an incredibly crafty composer.
