On the zoom Dan Redfeld said that he just finished proofreading the new Zorro book from Omni and that although there hasn’t been a complete score release yet, he’s been told one is coming. Oh gosh I don't think I had any idea there was a shop (or simply didn't think to check!). I have a few on my list but it's so expensive getting them from the US... I know a lot of people who consider it one of Jerry's best action scores of the decade. But for me it's middling. There are some strong highlights but I rarely feel like listening to the whole thing all the way through... which places it in a rare 1% of Goldsmith's output for me (I usually love the listening experience of his complete scores). And this doesn't have anything to do with Joel McNeely contributing a good chunk of the score; his stuff is mostly fantastic and I actually think his action music out-Goldsmiths Goldsmith in some ways. It sounds like more complex 70s Goldsmith action music rather than the more streamlined/simplified action style he adopted on a lot (but not all -- see The Shadow, The Mummy, and even Looney Tunes) of his post-Total Recall output. The 'Burbs, on the other hand, is my #1 favorite score Goldsmith wrote for Joe Dante, #1 favorite Goldsmith comedy score, and actually even on my top 10 Goldsmith scores of all time. But for me it's middling. It's say it's a top shelf *entry level* Goldsmith action score. Once you know the rest of his output, it's still good, with great highlights, but hardly top tier as a whole. Heck, even among his so-called (inaccurately IMO) "autopilot" 90s action scores, I personally enjoy Chain Reaction and Executive Decision more than this. Apart from a few highlights (the Russian choral stuff stands out), I rank this one about on par with U.S. Marshals, which to me is perhaps his most generic action score.
