Harry Potter and the PoA (Williams)

The Village (Howard)

Terminal (Williams)

The other two, no idea... I don't think Alexander or Troy(Horner) belong there.

But I would strongly endorse a special musical achievement oscar for Yared's Troy ;)

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - John Williams

The Terminal - John Williams

The Village - James Newton Howard

The Passion of the Christ - John Denby

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow - Edward Shearmur

this is just my wish.

I doubt it will happen.

I'd love for POA to win(a fine score for an overrated film), if not then Howard for the Village, a fine score for an underrated film.

Every year I try to predict the Academy's leanings. We don't get any signs like we do with the actors.

Finding Neverland

The Incredibles

Million Dollar Baby

Sideways

The Terminal

Not anymore, but thanks!!!! ;)

I must add a score from a movie I saw today, the french "Les Choristes", which does indeed belong to this 2004 Top Scores list. Bruno Coulais' has created one of the most charming relationships between music and story.

The main theme is the most beautiful theme you can imagine, which is developed through the first half of the movie, until the kids sing the complete piece. I don't understand why it's not used in the other half. But anyway, you won't want to stand up from you seat until the last credit.

As much as I think Giacchino deserves an Oscar for The Incredibles (were John Williams not in the running, of course), I think it would be a sin for the Academy to give him one while John Barry didn't even get a nomination for any of his 11 Bond scores. That said, I think Giacchino's a classy enough guy that he'd thank Barry in his acceptance speech. In fact, it'd be pretty wrong not to.

But what am I saying. John Williams is the guy who's got a speech to make. Here are my picks:

The Terminal (Williams) [Winner]

Harry...Azkaban (Williams)

The Incredibles (Giacchino)

The Passion of the Christ (Debney)

The Village (Howard)

Those last two I haven't heard outside of the films, but I can't think of any others that I have.

My top five scores for the year based on their albums alone (favorite in bold):

Finding Neverland (Kaczmarek)

Kinsey (Burwell)

Undertow (Glass)

A Very Long Engagement (Badalamenti)

The Village (Howard)

(Williams's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban just missed the cut, if you're wondering.)

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban (Williams) WIN

The Village (Howard)

Finding Neverland (Kaczmarek)

The Incredibles (Giacchino)

The Passion of the Christ (Debney) (For me, I'd put The Terminal here, but I don't think they'll give Williams 2)

And I hope they don't take a cue from the Golden Globes, I don't know what they were smoking.

Greta - who thinks they'd be crazy not to get at least three right

POA shortlisted for Oscar

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is one of seven films that has been shortlisted for the Best Makeup Award at this year's Academy Awards. Highlights of the contending films will be shown to the academy, and the list will then be narrowed down to three. POA is also in the running for the "Best Visual Effects" award.

The nominees will be announced Tuesday, January 25th and will be presented on February 27th at 8:00 PM EST on ABC.

No mention of it being "shortlisted" for Best Score.

John- who doesn't really care about the Oscars but likes to see Williams win stuff. :)

HP:POA (Williams)

Terminal (Williams)

The Incredibles (Giacchino)

The Passion of the Christ (Debney)

I am really bad a prediciting who will get nominated and who will win, so take my picks with a grain of salt.
