MSM 194 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I don't think it has been posted already: Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin are making Independence Day 2 and 3. http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=102018 Are you interested? I am, actually...the first one was a lot of fun. Maybe Williams will score this time
Rachael Foley 10,164 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Harold Kloser and/or the other guy will probably score...
Giftheck 1,219 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 This has been happening for a decade, so it's not exactly breaking news. They've finally started moving forward with it, though, and they have Bill Pullman on board, but not Will Smith, although it's likely he will do it anyway.
MSM 194 Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 This has been happening for a decade, so it's not exactly breaking news. They've finally started moving forward with it, though, and they have Bill Pullman on board, but not Will Smith, although it's likely he will do it anyway. And they do have have some story details. And probably a release date (2016 ultimately).
Giftheck 1,219 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I don't know about what they've said about the story so far. Kind of sounds like a rehash to me. I hope they avoid making that mistake.
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 20 years later? Pullman isn't the president anymore.
A. A. Ron 2,485 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 20 years later? Pullman isn't the president anymore.Maybe the US got rid of term limits after the alien invasion. Or Pullman served a term in 1996, took a break, then ran for office again in 2016. Either way, like other "former Presidents," he would keep the title for the rest of his life. Jimmy Carter is still "President Carter" and George Bush is still "President Bush," etc.
hornist 1,261 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Is it even legal to make a sequel to the worst film ever?
Giftheck 1,219 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 I'm sorry, for a minute there I thought you were referring to Battlefield Earth when you said "worst film ever".
crocodile 9,724 Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 Don't care about the films (I've never seen the first one), but having two David Arnold score would be nice.I mean... you can't possibly make those films without him... can you?Karol
MSM 194 Posted March 29, 2013 Author Posted March 29, 2013 Is it even legal to make a sequel to the worst film ever?I understand your frustration...aliens never come to Finland.
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I'm sorry, for a minute there I thought you were referring to Battlefield Earth when you said "worst film ever". Shh. There is a second half of the book to film. It could happen.
Ollie 1,375 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Given that David Arnold hasn't worked with Emmerich since GINO, I seriously doubt he'll score these and there's no need for sequels to ID4.ID4 was a fun film with an excellent score.
pixie_twinkle 60 Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 I refuse to ever let myself get excited about an Emmerich film ever again. I've been disappointed every time.
Naïve Old Fart 13,026 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 Don't care about the films (I've never seen the first one), but having two David Arnold score would be nice.I mean... you can't possibly make those films without him... can you?KarolI doubt that Arnold would want to work with them again, after the "The Patriot" debacle.
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted March 31, 2013 Posted March 31, 2013 I thought it was the studio that rejected Arnold, not Emmerich?Either way he never went back to him. All his films are shit so I don't care. They wanted to call this ID4-ever.
Jay 46,245 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Jessie Usher cast as Dylan Hiller, the son of Will Smiths Captain Steven Hiller from the original ID4
Jill Sandwich 11,171 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'll want this movie erased from history if David Arnold isn't called back. Kloser has been too hands-on in this project for my comfort.I hope they at least ask him.
Jill Sandwich 11,171 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'd like an ID4/Alien/Predator crossover.
Xander Harris 9,677 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'd like a sequel to the 1998 Godzilla.
Jill Sandwich 11,171 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 The animated series is the closest you'll ever get. It's about seven bucks for the complete series on Amazon.
Wojo 2,458 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'm sad that Will Smith's son won't play his movie son. That would have told me to ignore it quickly.
Jill Sandwich 11,171 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Rumour has it he was pushing for that.
DreamTheater 131 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 I'm not getting my hopes up Arnold will return for the sequels. Hollywood wants to stay away as far as possible from the first film's sound. Heroic fanfares and themes you can whistle or hum? I've watched ID4 a dozen times if not more and I still love it today.Dumb as it may be, the movie has heart, spectacle, some fun character interactions and truly stunning miniature effects shots. Not to mention an excellent sound mix, which is a true test for any HT setup. It remains of my most-loved blockbusters of all time. Here's hoping the sequels will bring back the old formula which worked back then and not be more generic CGI overload extravaganzas, like I've seen too many times already.
Quintus 6,499 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 It's the ultimate Hollywood summer extravaganza movie.
Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Perhaps Roland will reunite with John Williams...

Jay 46,245 Posted March 4, 2015 Posted March 4, 2015 Liam Hemsworth And Jeff Goldblum Officially Confirmed For Independence Day 2
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Independence Day 2 Adds Joey King and Brent Spiner
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Is Brent Spiner qualified to play someone's identical twin?
Quintus 6,499 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I'm surprised they're bringing back Vivica A. Fox tbh. She was good in Curb You Enthusiasm though, which was the last place she was seen, no?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Yikes, thats career cancer right there!
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Is Brent Spiner qualified to play someone's identical twin?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 If I didn't get it B4, i'm not gonna get it now! I don't recall identical twins in the ID4 lore....
Jay 46,245 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Wojo was making a Star Trek joke, and you're pretending to not get it because you think its funny.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Read the f*cking post again where I actually acknowledge that Leblanc!B4....lore?
Wojo 2,458 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 We, Um, never met Dr. What's his name's family in ID4. So he could have an identical twin. Or it could be a flashback. Or it's OH FOR GOD'S SAKE it's been twenty years, you're gonna make a sequel? The kids who saw it in the theater have kids in grade school.
Quintus 6,499 Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I still don't get it. Lost in translation? Cultural divide? Trekkie humour?
