Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Quote The sweeping, dazzling music that fueled Star Wars will be reissued by Sony Classical in three new, definitive editions — Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection, Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition, and Star Wars: The Ultimate Digital Collection. All composed by John Williams, these unique collector’s sets will be released worldwide January 8, 2016. . Star Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork. . Star Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Edition includes the original six soundtracks in mini-album jackets, plus a bonus CD featuring audio interviews with Harrison Ford and John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one-hour special highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectible stickers. . Lady Dimitrescu 10,053 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 So Yub Nub and Lapti Nek are coming back!
nightscape94 967 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I'm curious about the interviews with Ford and Williams, but no new music. They're milking it!
crumbs 15,546 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Bonus interviews with Harrison Ford in the UIltimate Soundtrack Collection! Yes!All my prayers have finally been answered! Thanks Sony.
Lady Dimitrescu 10,053 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Sony loves word "ultimate".
Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Surely the OT will be the 1997 presentations, while the prequels will be the OSTs. The only thing one could hope is that they're giving the OT a new mastering, but I'm doubtful.
crocodile 9,230 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 State of the art DSD mastering? Karol

Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The Vinyls do look beautiful. The collector in me might want those
Incanus 5,858 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 mini-album jackets audio interviews with Harrison Ford and John Williams. :w00t:a fold-out poster :woop: three collectible stickers. Jilal and Muad'Dib 2
Lady Dimitrescu 10,053 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Surely the OT will be the 1997 presentationsWhy use the original trilogy OST covers with the 1997 assemblies?
Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 According to Amazon.com tracklist, both the OT and the prequels will be the OSTs, at least in the vinyl boxset:http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Ultimate-Vinyl-Collection/dp/B015NOT9AY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1443195376&sr=8-2&keywords=Star+Wars+ultimate+collectionStar Wars: The Ultimate Vinyl Collection includes each of the six film soundtracks from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace to Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in deluxe gatefold sleeves faithfully replicating the original artwork. Audio was transferred from the original LP masters using the highest resolution (up to 192kHz/24bit) and pressed with heavy 180gram vinyl. The six soundtrack set (on 11 LPs) is presented in a black, soft-touch laminated slipcase with an embossed, hot silver foil Star Wars logo and includes a digital download card for one complete box set (all six soundtracks).
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Surely the OT will be the 1997 presentationsYep. They already did that with the 2007 box-set, which included the 1997 versions in mini-album jackets replicating the original artwork. But I find it weird (and misleading) to release two different vinyl albums for each score in the OT with identical artwork but different content. Why use the original trilogy OST covers with the 1997 assemblies?Because it's Sony.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The amazon tracklist bags to differ. If true then this would be the first time that the OST for TESB is released in any format apart from LP.
Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 Actually the CD boxset version looks like will be the just the remastered OSTs too (9 CDs and 1 DVD)http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Ultimate-Soundtrack-Collection/dp/B015NOT9FY/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1443196527&sr=1-1&keywords=Star+Wars+ultimate+collection+soundtrackStar Wars: The Ultimate Soundtrack Collection includes the original six soundtracks in mini album jackets on 9 CDs, plus a bonus CD featuring a new audio interview with Harrison Ford (Han Solo) alongside an interview with John Williams. Also included is the DVD Star Wars: A Musical Journey, a one hour special hosted by actor Ian McDiarmid (Chancellor Palpatine) highlighting select musical themes alongside key sequences from the films. Rounding out the set are a fold-out poster and three collectable stickers.
Lady Dimitrescu 10,053 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The OST covers are so much more Star Warsy than those boring Struzan covers.
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The amazon tracklist bags to differ. If true then this would be the first time that the OST for TESB is released in any format apart from LP.Actually the CD boxset version looks like will be the just the remastered OSTs too (9 CDs and 1 DVD)Now that is good news!
Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 If it's 9 cd's on the boxset, it means the Special editions plus the OST's for prequels, I am right?
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The Star Wars and TESB OST's probably wouldn't fit a single CD. But ROTJ would. That would mean 8 CD's rather then 9 though.
Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 True enough. But ROTJ would. So where do the 9 cd's come from, since they clearly state it's 9 cd's plus a bonus interview cd?
Little Ghost 7,987 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Superman wouldn't have fit one disc either...

#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Superman wouldn't have fit one disc either...Superman was released as a single CD, even though it's almost 78 minutes. But it was also released on CD with two tracks committed, because they wouldn't fit a single CD (according to the liners)
Little Ghost 7,987 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Superman wouldn't have fit one disc either...Superman was released as a single CD, even though it's almost 78 minutes. But it was also released on CD with two tracks committed, because they wouldn't fit a single CD (according to the liners)Of course. That's what I was getting at.
Jay 43,025 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Stefan, the original 2LP sets of Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back EASILY fit onto 1 CD. Star Wars 2LP was 74 minutes and TESB was 74 1/2.
Little Ghost 7,987 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Some tracks are missing from the prequels?
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Yes, and the TESB track list is weird...
Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 It seems they're replicating the LP configurations for the CD boxset as well.I bet the Amazon tracklists are going to be amended, they don't make much sense so far.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Some tracks are missing from the prequels?I don't think that track list is accurate. Why would you release the OST for ROTS on two CD's?
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 It seems they're replicating the LP configurations for the CD boxset as well. Not in the case of TESB...1. The Asteroid Field 2. The City in the Clouds 3. Rebels at Bay 4. Yoda and the Force 5. The Duel 6. The Magic Tree 7. Lando's Palace 8. Finale 9. The Battle in the Snow
Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Like I said, being a 9cd set, the only thing that makes sense to me is the Special Editions, plus the OST's for the prequels
Maurizio 6,044 Posted September 25, 2015 Author Posted September 25, 2015 IMHO, whoever entered the data on Amazon probably mixed up the tracklists for the LP boxset with the CD boxset. I guess they're gonna amending it sooner or later.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 So you reckon they will release the OST's on vinyl, and the SE's on CD?What will be the download version though? The SE's weren't mastered at high res, so...
Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 I guess so. As for the download...no idea
Jay 43,025 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The SE's weren't mastered at high res, so... Says who?
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 So you reckon they will release the OST's on vinyl, and the SE's on CD?What will be the download version though? The SE's weren't mastered at high res, so...The three releases will feature identical content. Most likely it will be the OSTs and not the SEs. And the Amazon track lists are incomplete/mixed-up.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,075 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 The SE's weren't mastered at high res, so...Says who?A Vulcan scientist of your acquaintance...
Jay 43,025 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Actually the CD boxset version looks like will be the just the remastered OSTs too (9 CDs and 1 DVD) The Amazon listing says 10 CDs + 1 DVD, not 9CDs + 1 DVD. 2 CD sets for OT = 6, 1 CD for PT = 3, interview disc = 1, ROTS dvd = 1
Romão 2,432 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 That seems like the only option, really
crocodile 9,230 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 All of which means... money saved for some boutique label releases coming out this fall/winter.Karol
Ricard 2,380 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 But the track listings contradict that option..

Jay 43,025 Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 You'd think Disney and/or Sony would have learned how to put out non-confusing information to announce a product by now.....
