I've seen forums that have completely died over the years -Telltale's Monkey Island and Trescom for example- but this place is still kicking compared to those. Granted, I wasn't around in the old days but the fact that this place has managed to stay so alive and with so many devoted members despite the lack of on-going new Williams material to talk about has to say something. I remember I was distincly annoyed with some of the eldery members of this place; but now, every time I'm feeling a little depressed, coming here just gives me the nicest smile and sometimes the biggest laughs. I'm sure I won't leave an impression on you guys but you sure have left an impression on me. And I thank you for that.

  3. Yep. I should point out my dedication to JWFan by stating that I booked the photo opp wearing a DS9 T-Shirt I just bought, went back to my hostel and changed into my JWFan shirt! Trekkies dressed in Vulcan garbs and Klingon armour looked at me like I was a freak!

  4. Hey, Simple Minds' "awful stadium rock shite" is the best thing that came out from the mid-'80s! Nope, that would be The Smiths. + 1 !!!! Wasn't the Apple ad. directed by a certain R. Scott, esq? Anyway, yous all forgot the most significant film to be released in 1984...

  6. His performance in Punch Drunk Love has always been one of my favorites. Probably the best riff on the phrase "shut up" in film history.

  7. First time I hear Hoosiers, Lionheart, Under Fire, The Agony and the Ecstasy in concert form. Jerry Goldsmith with the National Philharmonic Orchestra in 1989. Good sound quality. Edit: Just gonna re-post this here for those too lazy to view the previous page: Jerry Goldsmith with the LSO 1989.

  8. I like the touching melodies of the main theme, but yeah, I agree that it isn't a particularly interesting score. In the film it was actually quite a bad score, which is usual for Williams. It's the kind of score you'd hear in 1940's films. And it seems that what John Williams was going for, Spielberg's direction is in that style as well. As such, it makes sense. People wrongfully think of it as a war drama - it's not. It's based on a children's story. One thing I find really interesting about the score is how JW treats themes in it - there are so many of them. And the one you could call the main idea disappears from the film completely in the second act and comes back right at the end. One more thing: This is also probably the best JW album in ages - it has beginning middle and end. Karol

No. This place is better than ever. Those new guys are just great, even if they are too much Lotr orientated but otherwise ok. Those whiners only have some personal issues. The new coming of the JWFan started on 10th of June 2010.

  12. Ah! Brian Ferneyhough! One of my favourite Youtube commentators (fremsley001) has made it his life's mission to take the piss of Ferneyhough, Finnisy, Emsley and other pseuds. http://www.youtube.com/user/fremsley001/about

  14. I was referring to the Spring 0 movement. There's some cool stuff there, but it seems the work is just fragments of Vivaldi mixed in there to appeal to modern audiences (some of those familiar progressions...). Not bad though. Anyways, one of favourites of Part's work:
