  1. Hopefully, yes. But realistically, doubtful.
  2. Birth of the twins or the discussion about separating them, should have been scored with "Luke and Leia" from ROTJ. Now THAT would have been spine-chilling.
  3. Let me get in here early: ET - flying against the backdrop of the Moon (THE best moment in film scoring history ever?) I also particularly like the very first rendition of the Family theme in HP:PS, when they are on that rock out at sea. Utterly unique, brilliantly orchestrated, emotional, innocent; perfect for the scene.
  4. 5 is tough, but here goes. EDIT: NOW IN ORDER Harry's Wondrous World - HP:PS version (2001 OST if you want an actual album) The Asteroid Field - ESB (1997 SE) Prologue - Hook (1991 OST) Remembrances - Schindler's List (1993 OST) Where Dreams are Born - AI (2001 OST) And before anyone says anything, I know Adventures on Earth isn't there. Deal with it. Good idea for a topic, by the way Joe. Looking forward to see what the winners are.
  5. Action: The Ultimate War Drama: Remembrances Comedy: Burglar's theme OVERALL:Harry's Wondrous World If I have to pick just four; although I am not sure "comedy" is the best category.
  6. Can I suggest we do two a day cos I, for one, have heard only one of the scores and I think many others will have the same amount of familiarity.
  7. Here here. JP is one franchise that JW has totally made his own; all the themes are amazing.
  8. Yeah the DVD rip. But it is as complete as we are going to get for a while. And it isn't at all bad; the music is mostly clear and vibrant.
  9. Both WotW and MoaG complete would be fantastic to hear. I am still finding new and exciting stuff in the complete POA that is now available.
  10. Depends on which recording of the Raiders March. If we take the OST version, I would say ROTS, simply because, despite Murphy's best efforts, 2005 recordings just sound better than 1981 ones.
  11. A complete AI score (not a bootleg) already exists. If you mean the Academy promo, I defy anyone to find one now. I very much wish I could get hold of it, but it "exists" but is not "available". A commercial release would be ideal...
  12. Yay I can start voting now. Dracula for me. Nothing of any real value in that score. At least The Towering Inferno has the theme, which is one of Williams' best of the 1970s IMO.
  13. By new themes for old, I am talking about the phenomenon of a franchise of film scores - particularly when written by the same composer - where the themes changed from one film to the next. I think we all understand that when a new composer takes over a franchise (Star Trek springs immediately to mind, as does GOF) they may want to stamp their own authority on it, by creating new themes for old. But what about when themes change even when the same composer is still writing the scores? I am thinking in particular about three examples: 1. The Imperial theme in Star Wars that is replaced by the Imperial March for the rest of the franchise 2. The Family theme from Harry Potter, that is replaced by the Window to the Past theme in POA 3. Gollum's theme, which was established in FOTR and then totally replaced in TTT Now OK, there will always be arguments about whether the themes actually represent the same thing. In the Imperial March case, I remember reading long articles about how the Imperial theme should have been used in Episode II etc. To be honest, I think that is a load of bull. It is abundantly clear that the two themes represent substantially the same thing: Darth Vader and the Empire. With the Family/Past theme, again I think it is clear that they are for the same thing (ie Harry's parents and his pride in them). And Gollum's theme is almost unarguable; it is a simple like-for-like replacement of themes. Personally, I do not mind if the theme it is replaced by is better. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Imperial March is better than the older Imperial theme. Not only as a piece of music, but as a representation of the Empire and Vader; can anyone seriously imagine Darth Vader's death being scored with the Imperial theme?! It is also for precisely this reason that I hated Shore's abandoning of the original Gollum theme. IMO it was just a better motif for the character. As for the family theme/past theme, I actaully love them both. I think that some of the playings of the Family theme in HP:PS are just magnificent - some of the best music in the film - but that by POA it was maybe getting a little tired. And the new past theme, particulalry when it is used tenderly (such as when Lupin and Harry are on the bridge near the beginning of the film), is stunning. So what do other people think?
  14. A complete Hook conductor score and recording. Ditto for A.I.
  15. The original with Danny Kaye is a truly classic film.
  16. Sorry for the sarcasm earlier. It was going to come eventually...
  17. What you play snooker, pool, billiards et al. with.
  18. I would go so far as to say that the Force theme is - with the possible exception of the Jaws theme - the best theme in the history of film music.
  19. By whom exactly? And are we talking film or score?
  20. Kamino's sea was excellent, IMO. The buildings and creatures? Not terrible, but not stellar.
  21. The Simpsons is always fun. And did you that Elfman gets $11.50 every time it is played?
  22. The film is overrated, not much happens in it. I very much hope that you are joking.
  23. The best score of the 1990s, far from overrated, a truly moving score.
