  1. Fenring is being played by Tim Blake Nelson No announcement for Alia yet. Her portrayal might involve VFX and some sort of motion capture, I'd reckon
  2. And I have no problem with that. But by the cast alone you can tell Maximus' achievements have been undone in this film
  3. The first Gladiator ended with the ridiculous notion that Rome would somehow revert back to being a Republic. But now Geta and Caracalla are in the sequel. So I would guess it didn't actually happen and Maximus died just for his personal vengeance and little else? They played so loosely with History in the first film, they will undoubtedly do it again with this one
  4. Rotten Tomatoes can be quite a deceiving metric in its simply dichotomy between Fresh and Rotten. Some movies end in the 90's with average ratings that sometimes don't even exceed 7 out of 10. That speaks more of the consensual, risk free nature of the movie itself than of the quality of the movie itself. This was very obvious with many MCU movies, which IMHO, had vastly inflated Rotten Tomatoes scores in relation to their actual quality. I much prefer MetaCritic
  5. The whole dynamic between two brothers that are meant to rule as co-emperors could be an interesting one (they've cast both Geta and Caracalla, so I assume that's where they're going with it), but the movie title just sounds really, really dumb when the title character is nowhere to be seen. Or they will also make Lucius fight as a Gladiator, which would be a bit silly. Like Finding Dory, this is clearly a project that began with its title
  6. Generally speaking, and this really is a broad generalization, most of the movies that I really love are in the mid 80's. Some movies in the 90's tend to be consensual to a fault.
  7. From that list, I would also say The Chairman, but I would really love if they tackled a really ambition re-recording of something like Spartacus or The Ten Commandments
  8. I love the score and it has Elfman's all time best opener (the first two tracks merged), but the circus music grates on me a bit after a while. That's the only thing I hold against it. Everything else is absolutely brilliant
  9. I have very little doubt Part Two will gross a lot more than Part One at the box office. Part One had a very tough hill to climb, with the pandemic and the simultaneous HBO Max release. This can only increase. Besides, it's still 6 months away. Marketing will ramp up when it needs to
  10. Night and day difference. Like you, I didn't even suspect the score could sound this good. Makes me glad I had never pulled the trigger and spent quite a bit of money of the Varese edition
  11. I agree 100%. Young's score for the sequel is also terrific. And I only discovered it because it came paired in a two disc set with Shore's score for the first film.
  12. Not that I expected Spielberg to say anything different, but for what it's worth: Steven Spielberg Watched ‘Indiana Jones 5,’ Loved It and Told the Director: ‘Damn! I Thought I Only Knew How to Make One of These’
  13. The use of that line in the trailer was absolutely ridiculous. Its' taking something that had no importance in the 89 movie and turn it into some sort of catchphrase just because the audience will remember it. It's letting the public perception of something seep into the movie itself. They already did the same thing in the first trailer with the "I'm Batman" line. This nostalgia baiting needs to stop. It's lazy, it's uncreative, it breaks the immersion and the audience shouldn't reward this sort of thing
  14. Indeed, twists work best when one doesn't know a twist is coming. It's probably one of the main reasons why M. Night's career deflated so much.
  15. Thing is, Ridley is so damn unreliable. He was able to elevate a quite lackluster script in Gladiator (the central performance also helped tremendously and did a lot of the heavy lifting). but for the most part, I tend to think he's as good as the script
  16. Napoleon's life seems to large in scope to be well told in a single movie. Wasn't this supposed to originally be centered around Josephine's life?
  17. Harrison Ford absolutely is Indiana Jones. He was absolutely crucial in defining that character. Had other actor played that role, and the character would've been totally different , and most likely for the worst. The idea of Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford is, frankly, preposterous. And that's why I have no doubt Disney will go ahead with it
  18. I really need to explore his music more. I'm only familiar with and own Lords of the Flies, L'Ours and Ghost Story The original album is such a perfect, well rounded, listening experience, that I'm not sure if more music would necessarily improve on that
  19. I must second the recommendations for Young's first Hellraiser score and The Fly II. Both albums are fantastic listening experiences
  20. That looks like an absolute hoot Just bought the bundle
  21. I've just finished it a couple of weeks ago and I also thought it was absolutely terrific. Not quite as innovative or engrossing as Obra Dinn. but still quite unique. I too hope more games are done in this vein. And even when you do get stuck, they never get frustrating and make force brute into solving the scenarios That was absolutely amazing. This score will work wonderfully with a proper curated presentation. Let's hope the upcoming Limited Run edition tackles this properly
  22. It's unfortunate the film focus so much on the torture and passion themselves (well, one can't say the title isn't accurate), as I found all the scenes preceding the violence and the flashbacks that intercut it to be quite gripping. Particularly the Olive Garden and the scenes with Pilates. The languages help tremendously in the immersion. But the violence was really too much, like Gibson was revelling in it somehow
