ocelot got a reaction from Will in John Williams to Score Kobe Bryant short film "Dear Basketball"
I highly doubt it. Williams has a knack of going into a project and leaving another behind unless it is in that vein of scoring. This is more like Leaving hogwarts / The BFG with a little Americana thrown in. It would hardly fit in to star wars on any level. Completely different chord structures and modulations. It would fit more in Disney (and yes Star Wars is now Disney, but I mean the animations of old).

It's very warm and heartfelt. Whether he releases it or not as it is here, I bet he makes a concert version of it which will be released on an album. Since it is really based on one theme, the concert version where he can organically have time to develop the theme and make an actual piece of it would suit me better anyway. I'm happy to wait for that version for my listening.

As for this supposed assault or non assault. I don't get into any of that. If I did most of the people I listen to and watch on screen I'd have to throw out. I separate the personal from the artist and enjoy the artist. Otherwise forget most of the movies and tv you all are happy to watch. Casting Couch anyone?

So I've been listening to this a lot.  It truly is a wonderfully constructed piece of music that accomplishes quite a bit in roughly 3.5 minutes, complete with tailor-made built-in countdown to a Williams climax.  To Kobe's credit, he seems to have inspired some nice artistry with his collaborators.

Really hoping this gets a release because it contains that Williams magic.

The Cast and creators lined up for it actually sounds great so far. There's some really good talent lining up cast wise not to mention the directors on it. Hopefully will be a fun movie.
I'm with you Will. I actually love the Politics. It wasn't the politics that was boring int he prequels it was the awful writing and implementation of the politics amongst other horrid factors.

I've mentioned this before. There's a book called Bloodline, by Claudia Gray, set 6 years before TFA. It's Leia centric, no jedi, no Sith, very much political and how Leia ends up being outed and ending up no longer part of the Senate but out as a general with her own forces, One of the best Star Wars books I have ever read and on most people's best as well. So again, it's not the politics that is boring, but how politics is written that makes it gripping or not.

Also there was a statement by Bob Eiger stating that we will find out what Han Solo's real name is and how he got his name. Kathleen Kennedy just issued a statement stating that Han Solo is his name, we are merely finding out more about him.

That's all cool and fine, but remember, these trio of films come out every 10/20 years, right? It's about igniting the love for a new generation of fans. New kids who can go explore the light and the dark and the rich characters created. Also for someone like myself who hates film in general and prefers the ongoing saga of TV like Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, The Good Wife, Sherlock etc, for me, this is what I want because I get bored and annoyed with going to see one film and then it's over in 90 to 120 minutes. I want to know what is next. My curiosity gets peaked and when I am finally invested it's over? I'm not interested in that. I don't see the point of it. I want to know what happens after. Where the characters go, who dies, who changes sides, who grows from their experiences. It's the journey that counts for me.
And the most important thing for myself in particular when it comes to this franchise is Williams music. In my opinion this is his greatest symphony. I want him to end at 9 and have this be the greatest output of any film composer when it comes to a franchise. This is his legacy and I want to see him complete it hopefully. If 8 is his last, then fine, it's still his master work, but I hope he gets to 9. After he is done with them, I will still remain because I love the characters and I want to know more.
I read the book Bloodline, set 6 years before The Force Awakens. What a book. It's a political book, no Jedi, no lightsabers, and Leia centric, about her fall from the Senate and how she finds out about this new rise of evil we see in The Force Awakens and how she sort of becomes this outcast General who is leading a band of rebels and doesn't have the backing of the Senate. I love how JJ and Johnson spoke heavily to the author, Claudia Grey, to make her story go into both episodes 8 and 9 and how it will influence both. I love the interconnectedness of all the realms. How Rebels series ties into Rogue one that ties into A New Hope.... It's interplay to the extreme and creates a universe that is so rich in its tapestry and mythology. That's why I love complicated universes.
When I say I don't care, I'm not being facetious. I just care about what I love and you should find what you love.

Why on Earth would you want anyone else conducting? He's only been doing that lately for full concerts because of his age and the energy needed for it.
I think because they were sitting behind the curtain for a very long time with the instruments getting cold made the whole french horn solo flat. It happens if the place is cold. They should have done a quick tuning before the start.

Everybody shushing at once was kind of adorable.  That flubbed note in the opening horn solo was not.  And everyone in the audience holding their camera phones aloft was chilling in a dystopian kind of way.

the first scene of the trailer almost feels like the pan down from space in every Star Wars movie but with a twist. musically it sounds very much like John Williams as well, I think that of all parts is most likely to be him - but other parts are definitely either all trailer house or a splice. as much as it irritates us, the general audience just doesn't get as hyped by trailers without loud fake instruments and choir, so maybe they reached a compromise and had a bit of a mix. its certainly more likely in this case because a decent amount of scoring has already been done for TLJ.

That's not Vader's helmet, that's Kylo's. I wonder how he still had it, after leaving it on the bridge on the Starkiller shortly before the planet's destruction.

Just watched this. Still in shock. Incredible.

Music is incredible. Obviously hard to say if it's Williams but I hope it is (yes, I know it is clearly beefed up by a music house, but that doesn't rule out it being mostly Williams.)

As a word of caution, it is helpful to note that acoustic orchestral sound does not necessarily mean it's Williams. I know that there was at least some live recording for TFA trailer 3, for example, which was not at all Williams.

I will say, though, that some spots near the beginning seem very tenderly orchestrated in a way you wouldn't necessarily expect from a music house.

    Loved hearing the TFA themes!!

And the visuals ... man, they didn't even show the planet I most wanted to see, and it was still breathtaking.

    Hooray for Star Wars!!!
