  1. I think he's reasonably funny, but above all, he's a film music guy and a Sagan fan. Ok in my book.
  2. The Big O Something in some other thread about anime reminded me of this show, which used to air late at night on Adult Swim. I've started rewatching it now that I remembered what it was called. It's slick and stylish, with a very singular atmosphere that I really dig. Think of Batman meets Bond, set in a Nolan noir universe with a large dose of Kubrickian befuddlement. Also should mention the fantastic score, which swings effortlessly from neo-classical, Mozart homages to cool jazzyness, and a lot in between.
  3. The Adventures of Tintin This was a delightful romp, with both Spielbergian and Jacksonian sensibilities shining through, with great writing and voice casting. More than a few moments of genuine laugh-out-loud humor. Snowy is adorable. Except for the colorfully fun opening title cue, John's score is, well, present. I do have to say that it was a very oddly paced film. Not bad by any means, but different. The Dark Knight Trilogy Well, you know. Damn. What a fantastic piece of cinema.
  4. Well said, this is a fun score by the sound of that video!
  5. I've yet to give it a full listen, not because of Giacchino but the man wearing a hat sitting at the big board.
  6. I watched The Tree of Life again. I don't know what was different but this time it was almost transformative.
  7. "Best thing about JWFan, you're so domesticated. All standing around, apologizing, keeping your little heads down. You can do what you like here, no one's ever going to stop you. A forum of herbivores. I've interests all over the internet, but everything starts at JWFan. If it works here, I'll try it in a real forum." -Stefan Augusts Cosmanssen
  8. But they can't get it up. "Bells up" I'll see myself out.
  9. Pretty good representation of what goes on back there.
  10. The horn might be a tough play, but everyone always knew where to come for a good time in high school band. The trombone section.
  11. DOS used it too, at least it was written in the score. I can't particularly hear it when it's featured.
  12. Hans' best, even with the Thin Red Line reprise towards the end. From about 5:20 to 7:30 is transcendent.
  13. This is all actually really touching. I'm happy for all of you who have been here from the start or nearly that long, and hopeful my time here matches yours in importance.
  14. Billy Joel's River of Dreams is a fantastic album.
  15. See, that's what puts me off of him and his site, his almost constant disapproval of "dissonance". And I've never seen him able to back up that opinion well.
  16. Williams' concert music needs more moments like that in the first movement of the cello concerto, with those thundering timpani or toms or whatever they are.
