  1. I'm hoping you're not being entirely serious about Matt Smith. IMHO, he's done an incredible job and is one fantastic Doctor. Having not seen "Sherlock" yet, I can't say anything about Mr. Cumberbatch. But I can wholeheartedly say that hiring Matt Smith was not a "mistake" as you put it. And I seriously don't think Moffat considers his work on "Doctor Who" as an "afterthought". P.S. His mum was also in "Time and the Rani". (And "The Faceless Ones".)
  2. Cool, glad I'm not the only one that enjoys Patrick Doyle's Kenneth Branagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Agreed that "The Creation" just absolutely rocks. And the love theme, I just adore that love theme. The arrangement played in the bedroom on their honeymoon is just beautiful, IMHO. Having watched the film again recently, yeah the film can be a bit over-the-top, but with that source material, you almost have no choice if you want to be faithful. One of my pet peeves about it is John Cleese's false teeth, he sounds terrible when he speaks. I love some of the other minor details, like the stitching in the Creature's eyeballs. But yeah, out of the whole CD, I'd have to stick with "The Creation."
  3. Worse than "Spock's Brain"? Worse than "And the Children Shall Lead"? Or have you not seen those yet?
  4. Ouch. Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to pass up Krull. It gets harder and harder to justify these splurges with the wife. She's not quite "one of us" (though she does enjoy JW's scores). Really excited to get Batman, though!
  5. Apologies, I hadn't seen the Krull price. I was just assuming an average price for a 2-CD set with shipping. Perhaps it's slightly less because it's a "re-issue" with minimal additional work done on it? Just guessing here. I'd love the 2-CD Batman to be $19.98, but not holding my breath.
  6. Batman will be mine. Looks great! Just not sure I can justify shelling out another $30 or so for 10 minutes of unreleased tracks from Krull to my wife, much as I love that score (and her).
  7. The Batman and Die Hard quotes almost seem too obvious for MV's hints, don't they? I thought he was usually a bit more subtle than that.
  8. I love Moffat's press releases way better than RTD's. Always good for a laugh. RTD's were OK, but Moffat just works completely for me.
  9. Glad I'm not alone. I've never really had trouble with time paradoxes and such. BTTF and the like have always made perfect logical sense to me (well, at least where logic could be applied, anyway...). I just wrote a little DW fanfic story for my wife that had a bit of timey wimey in it.
  10. After he was released from the Pandorica, the Doctor later used the vortex manipulator to go back in time to Rory to give him the screwdriver so Rory could free him from the Pandorica. Yeah, it's a bit of a cheat. But I still don't get why this confuses people so much, sorry.
  11. Best: "Vincent and the Doctor", runner-up "The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang" Least Favorite: "Victory of the Daleks", runner-up "The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood" Overall, I feel more satisfied with this season as a whole than I ever did with an RTD season. Possibly because the finale was actually built up to, instead of just a word or phrase dropped in the other episodes of the season willy-nilly. Or maybe I'm just biased because of Amy.
  12. Hee hee! Good one! (Richard, check your ANH novelisation...)
  13. Went to last night's show in Green Bay. Great time, the orchestra sounded fantastic. I do think the choir was a bit hard to hear during their bits, however, that'd probably be my main complaint about the night, albeit a very minor one. The arrangements were almost all ones I'd heard before, with a few exceptions. A couple of pieces had different or modified endings. The Flag Parade from TPM was extended quite a bit, even more than a previous concert arrangement I'd heard before, I think. It was nice that a couple of times the big screen was focusing on the orchestra itself, not just clips from the movies. A couple of the solos from some pieces were really well done, for instance the violin solo (I think it's a violin) at the end of Princess Leia's Theme from ANH was spot-on in terms of matching the original soundtrack recording. Anthony Daniels was great, it was good to see him in person, even though I thought his narration went just a wee bit "over the top" at times. I still don't quite get why some guy screamed "YEAAAAHHHHH!" about 3/4 of the way through the Forest Battle Suite. That was a bit odd. But otherwise the crowd reactions were fine. Overall, an excellent evening of fantastic music!
  14. We started listening on our way up to the Star Wars In Concert performance last night, and on the way home. Lots of great stuff, not just tracks from the "biggies".
  15. YSH has a fabulous score, very very listenable. I love the themes, and the way those themes are developed and embellished in places. I'd LOVE to get a version that's had a good spit-n-polish from today's software/equipment/etc.
  16. You can both be Spartacus. Out of the door. Line on the left. One cross each. Next. I'm Spartacus, and so is my wife!
  17. Sounds pretty cool to me, too. I'm also getting kind of a "Jaws" vibe in there a bit, too. But then again, I'm weird.
  18. Great finale! The best one since the series came back in 2005. Matt and Karen were excellent as usual. The writing was smart, clever, funny, everything a DW script should be. I loved that most of the plot strands were resolved, and that a few were left open for next year. The way the Doctor plants the seeds for his return... just amazingly brilliant. I didn't want this series to end! Man, 6 months til Christmas is gonna be forever...
  19. Better than Star Trek XI? Absolutely. OK. Just askin'. Not arguin'.
  20. Yeah, what's up with that? Is the original recording like that, or is it just this album? Personally, I think Always has some lovely moments, but it doesn't really stand out to me. It's one of the few Williams scores I own where I couldn't hum you a theme from it. But I don't listen to it very often, and I couldn't give a fair rating without hearing it again first. I'm of the apparent minority, though, of people who love the film. If memory serves, it's got a clean beginning on the American Graffiti soundtrack. Welcome to the minority, I'm a fan of the film too!
  21. What's the title of the track from "Aliens" that was tracked into "Die Hard" when Powell shoots Karl (I think that was his name) at the end of the film? And is it on the Aliens CD? If not, where is it...? Sorry if that's spoilers for anyone. Thanks!
  22. My copy finally arrived. Haven't gotten home to rip it yet. One odd thing, though... For all this whingeing about "no chorus" in so many tracks, it just seemed very surprising to see the personnel listing for the chorus in the (quite lame) booklet.
