  1. Could Anthem of Evil be a discarded piece for the Throne Room reveal/exploration/Kylo arrival? Maybe with a concertesque ending/extension. I loathed that piece of tracking, so unfitting and badly looped, I just want to grab onto anything How the hell did JJ manage to make the Farewell theme have zero presence and impact in the film? It's actually quite impressive in a way. Lots of nice unreleased highlights but it never felt like a thought-out coherent whole of a score, unlike it does outside of the film.
  2. After the HP box came out, I deleted all my hodgepodge complete edits and am playing only the OSTs (demasters+ST) until we finally get all of them properly presented like they should for the first ever time, just to hype myself up more (OK, presentationwise there's nothing more to do with the original 77 one than the SE, I concede that), with the one exception for now being TROS where I like the OST+FYC combo much much more. Apart from AotC and possibly TFA, though, I prefer all the conplete scores to the OSTs, that's why I'm doing it. I tried to do the same with Indy, actually, but those OSTs are so bad i'd rather not listen to any Indy at all than listen to those.
  3. I probably wouldn't care about an Indy 5 either way. We heard what Old JW has to say on the franchise last decade, and if Skull's anything to go by, I'd much rather have him rest or work on a new concert work or whatever than wasting time on an Indy 5.
  4. I listen to SW more often, too, but mostly because for LotR, I want to give it the respect and undivided attention it deserves. A SW OST can be thrown on while on the bus.
  5. The current prologue with Kylo meeting Palps and the SDs rising out of the planet and everything was originally much later, the film opened with a longer Luke/Leia training flashback. I guess they figured they'd just get it out of the way, no need to build up or explain Palps, people already know he's in it from the trailers.
  6. I like the books and love the games, nothing in the trailers made me think I must watch this. Guess that impression was correct.
  7. Based on him uploading snippets, one could almost think he recorded the bloody thing for analysis! But no, we know he wouldn't do that...
  8. Fuck that! Also he sold them 7 years ago. strongly disagree, especially with all the post-97 additions They reprinted the new shots out onto film and spliced them into their own archived versions. The unaltered masters still exist for those shots somewhere. Despecialised literally just stiches together better footage and much worse quality earlier bits. A proper restoration woul dbe no more than 4k77 or 4k83 - rescan, cleanup, maybe slight DNR against the heavier grain.
  9. No, that annoying horseshit commercial ironically only takes your time away on legally bought DVDs, not with pirated movies. I watched Titanic today on DVD, I know. It started with that garbage.
  10. After about 8 FYC and 5 OST listens, I tried following the chrono list (thanks for the quick efforts, @Jay!). I did not expect anything major, certainly no falling in love with it over again as when I heard it for the first time. But I got it. A lot of it works sooooooooooo well here! Already the Prologue-Journey to Exogol-Falcon Flight trio is a fantastic opening setpiece, We Go Together flows brilliantly into Speeder Chase, we still get all the FYC tracks so it's not nearly as back-heavy as the OST, we get the more rounded final confrontation thing, too... One thing I'll do for the listening experience is switch Farewell and Reunion - I suspect R will pick up Rescue's triumphant but open ending much better than the restrained F, and F just goes great with New Home. Put Anthem of Evil after the credits and Rise of Skywalker at the very end where it belongs, a bow on the package. I really like TFA's OST and it doesn't have that many missing highlights, most of the rest is underscore and 25.000.000 alternates. TLJ is what it is, when it's good, it's great, you just have to get to it. Based on just this listen I suspect IX might work best on the eventual complete release?
  11. It is. I think I'll watch it tomorrow on the collector's ed DVDs, actually.
  12. For the opening, those drums, the racing strings and the high brass scream Doyle's Goblet of Fire at me!
  13. Now we're getting somewhere. I guess after Trevorrov was axed everyone was just happy to get any movie out in time. Should have delayed it like TLJ but for a wholly different reason: sit down with many many good people and figure it out.
  14. That was indeed good imitation, especially when he wrote extensions for the actual Williams recordings.
  15. So, while everyone's off watching SW9 and I can only do that on Monday: Love (1970) (No, that's Iván Darvas, not Colin Firth) Wonderful character drama based on 2 combined short stories from the same author, both firmly roted in reality and real life stories. We follow 2 women: one whose husband has been recently imprisoned for political reasons and is slowly becoming a social pariah, being ousted from a prestigious teaching job, losing sole ownership of her flat and so on, and the husband's dying 90 year old but still intelligent mother, who nevertheless lives in the belief (or does she?) that he is off making movies in America, having the time of his life, a lie the wife keeps up with forged letters to make the mother-in-law she doesn't even like that much happy and content. The best filmic adition is quick fleeting cutaways or more prolonged montages suggesting memories and thought processes, the history and life of the mother and everything. Like most of our greatest work, it had political difficulties in being made, and can be easily viewed as a veiled criticism and stand against its current political system, while technically depicting the more openly radical earlier one. Cannes winner, very often counted among our best classics, and I liked it very much.
  16. Did they ever do anything? Did the son inherit and use Sheev's abilities? JJ was a cheeky bastard here and decided it's not Rey's parents but grandparent who was someone. And she casts it away and chooses her own identity anyway.
  17. Like he did at the end if TLJ when he decided to do something? So, a joke at the expense of an earlier half-joke. World-changing retconning going on here, JJ secretly hates Rian's guts. He sure showed him!
  18. These are spoilers allowed threads, can one of you going on about it actually explain what you think this one "retcons" from TLJ and how?
