  1. You need to be smoking something in your pic to keep the continuity.
  2. Anyone watched the new anime short? Thoughts? I thought it was pretty good, but I'm not too eloquent and don't have much to say about it.
  3. Also the fathom events version of Nausicaa lol. I freaking love this movie. I watched it like 3 weeks ago, but I couldn't pass up the chance to see it in the theater again.
  4. Miyazaki made a tv show call Future Boy Conan. I haven't seen it, but it's Miyazaki and takes place in the future. Also, how about Akira. There's a good chance she's already seen it though as it's pretty famous. Can't say I'm too well versed in anime to be of much more help.
  5. La La Land I can see what all the hype was about, but it's honestly pretty overrated. It was nice to have something different though. I don't have much more to say though.
  6. Was listening to some Aquabats B-Sides today. One song, I Love the Monster, was really pumping me up. I'll see if I can find a link for it somewhere. EDIT: Here's a link with pretty crappy audio and a really weird video:
  7. It's mostly a post-ironic expression of my feelings towards anime and those who watch it. I really liked the character (plus I hadn't finished the show), so I made he my avatar, while also poking fun at people who have anime profile pictures. It was funnier on my facebook where it riled up quite a few of my friends.
  8. Yawara! A Fashionable Judo Girl Pretty good characters, but the pacing of the story was pretty wack at times. It would spend 6 or 7 episodes covering 2 or 3 matches at a Judo tournament, then it would take 3 episodes setting up the next tournament. The biggest problem with the show is how unfinished it was. Yawara never got her match with Jody, they really only began to finish the love story between her and Matsuda, and we never even get to see her at the Barcelona Olympics despite that being the primary goal of the series. I really enjoyed watching through the show, but I just felt empty by the time it was over. Started on Maison Ikkoku now, hopefully this show wraps everything up better than Yawara
  9. It was fun! I took my 8 year old brother cause he loves Indiana Jones. We were in the back right, but I bunch of seats were empty around, so we moved more towards the middle. My brother tried to leave during the end credits, but I wasn't having any of that. Over all, much better than the Harry Potter LTP I went to.
  10. So I'm going to the Raiders concert in Salt Lake tonight. I was wondering what standard attire for these things is? If anyone can help that would be great! Thanks!
  11. I haven't really seen any of Trevorrow's work, but from what I've heard I'm mildly glad that he's not at the helm anymore. I see no reason for there to be a delay though, as filming hasn't even started yet.
  12. Akira Distractingly violent at parts, but overall pretty good. Tetsuo would have been a better character if they had established his weak nature better in the beginning in order to emphasize his power and how he was using it. I really liked the scene with the teddy bear and rabbit, especially the shot that goes through the hallways super quick. I give it 8/10
  13. When I was freshman in high school my marching band played swing, swing, swing. Too bad I didn't realize it was williams until like 3 years later
  14. You guys need to watch The Bellboy. That's a classic.
  15. Just watched seinfeld through for the first time. Good show, but a stupid ending.
  16. http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/jerry-lewis-legendary-comedian-dies-at-91/ar-AAqoFd4 "Jerry Lewis, one of Hollywood’s most famous comedians, died Sunday at the age of 91" Truly one of the comedic greats.
  17. I agree with @someonefun124 and @artguy360 Shmi's theme is a great and deeply emotional theme.
  18. Interesting thoughts about the separate nature of philosophy and entertainment. I've found that my favorite films (and other media) are ones that can very successfully blend the two. That's why I like Miyazaki so much as a director. I can be entertained fully during the film, while it still makes me think later on with all of his movies. Take My Neighbor Totoro for example. The film exudes such a fun atmosphere that perfectly captures the wonders of childhood. Yet at the same time, I leave the movie thinking about growing up, and how much I had changed over the course of my childhood. The enjoyable aspect of film combined with the psychological/artistic/deep aspects of film and how they interact has major effects on how I view a film. I loved what you said about comedies too. A personal observation that I've made, is that in general, comedies receive lower ratings than more "serious" films. I feel that many critics try too hard to view all film with the same set of eyeglasses, and totally fail to miss the intent and/or the context of a film.
