I only started exploring Rubinstein's work a year ago. He only did a few major films, but he definitely left an impression on the movies of his that I've seen. He actually colloborated with John Badham on several films, nine in total. War Games and Blue Thunder are great, but i quite enjoyed his music from The Stakeout films, but could never them anywhere, outside of a hard to find composer promo thing he did. Thankfully somebody did upload a suite from the score, six days ago. RIP!!!

Alan Silvestri's THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (2018)
Fancyarcher replied to Muad'Dib's topic in General Discussion
True. I think that had to do the source material, and the fact that a lot of the music he was quoting (King Kong, Godzilla etc...), is generally associated with those characters, much less so in the case of Infinity War. -
Alan Silvestri's THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (2018)
Fancyarcher replied to Muad'Dib's topic in General Discussion
I actually liked that every hero had their own theme / motif in Justice League. My biggest issue with that score, was that most of the new themes I didn't find to be especially memorable. In the case of Infinity War, while I can understand the lack of old themes, especially given the films overall tone, and the fact that Silvestri apparently doesn't seem to be much of a fan of using material that isn't his, I'm a person who prefers recurring themes. It just seems like a major missed musical opportunity to me, anyway. -

Alan Silvestri's THE AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR (2018)
Fancyarcher replied to Muad'Dib's topic in General Discussion
Silvestri apparently used Black Panther's theme, though I could not really tell what track it was in the soundtrack. I'm not sure if it's Silvestri, or the studios but either way, the lack of apparent "continuity" in this score really bugs me. It would have been nice to hear Strange's theme or Tyler Iron Man's theme anytime those characters were involved in the action, instead of just variations on The Avengers theme. I enjoyed the score otherwise, though. The epic track "Even For You" being a particular highlight. -
The action was pretty excellent, especially for a Marvel film, The last battle on Titan against Thanos being a particular highlight. My entire theater sat through the credits too. It was funny though, as soon as the credits started rolling, a employee working in the theater came in told and us that after the emotional ending we just watched, that we shouldn't spoil it for people. It's not everyday you see that see / hear that sort of thing in the cinema. It was just that "big".

Avengers: Infinity War - Still processing this, but wow just wow. It's rare to see a superhero film get me so emotional. Thanos was also a fantastic villain. I'd say more, but I think people should just see the film. I enjoyed it a lot. - 8.5 / 10 -

I get the feeling that DeHaan was the best actor that Besson could get for the film, or something. I've liked him in a few films, but most of the time I get the feeling that he's out of his element in these kind of "big budgeted films". A Cure For Wellness was another film where I thought his casting worked against that film. -

DeHaan is miscast in a lot of the roles I've seen him in. He doesn't work as well as a "heroic lead". He should stick to more supporting roles / smaller films. -

Valerian and The City of a Thousand Planets - Enjoyed this a lot more then I expected to. It's really creative, and I like the worlds it builds, and there are even some legit funny moments, plus Desplat score is great, and works wonders in the film. Unfortunately the leads chemistry is not particularly good, and it takes the film down a notch or two for me. DeHaan in particular was quite poor, while Delevingne was alright, but still a bit stiff, though I suppose it could be worse. Not bad, but then again I tend to enjoy sci-fi fantasy adventure box office bombs, usually anyway. 6.5 / 10 -

JFK by John Williams -
You know I'd take every "rumor" with a grain of salt. Well almost everything. He wasn't in any of the Langdon films, or Willow among others. I'm quite glad he has a role in Solo, though.

The Assasination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford - First time watching this all the way through. It's a bit long, but overall pretty compelling and quite good. Casey Affleck is great, but I especially found Pitt's understated performance to be of note. Also Deakins cinematography is as usual, terrific. - 8 / 10 -

Spielberg to direct film adaptation of DC Comics' “Blackhawk”
Fancyarcher replied to Alex's topic in General Discussion
Title's a bit misleading. He's only currently producing, and he might direct it. That being said I think Spielberg could make a fun Blackhawk film, which is less of a traditional superhero film, and more of a World War 2 set Adventure series, depending on whether they decide to set in the past or present. Plus I'd love to see Williams score another comic-book film. -
