  1. Because they are money hungry and want it from everyone. I never did understand the decision making on that. I even had deleted one of them off my playlist at one point.
  2. The original Jaws 2 and the Jurassic Park ones sound nice in terms of an album experience. Never had an issue with those.
  3. I'm not talking about Intrada or FSM because they market their releases to the collectors. Your point: Obviously, but typically some of these companies seem to wait until something happens concerning OST releases. Sony seems to want casual consumers. If they where to release the complete collection of the Prequel trilogy tomorrow, only us collectors would come running. They want casual consumers to buy too. But yes, it is a shame, but only for those who care about the odd track that was left out. Of those people, there are not many of us when compared to the market out there. In no way am I defending studio's actions, but you need to get inside studio execs heads. To them, it's about making a profit from as many groups as possible. I just said most don't care about unreleased, expanded, extended, alternate, complete, tracks. A single disc release seems to be a safer product to them over releasing twice as much through a double disc release. Now according to your statement, yes they still would, but most wouldn't care about going out of their way to get bonus tracks. Besides, I've only seen one soundtrack that has done that and that was the Casino Royale OST. But I do like your idea of releasing complete scores through internet. This is how I can see complete versions of the Star Ware OSTs coming out of. I said it was fine, as in listenable. Sure they could use another remaster, but until then, they're fine.
  4. Concerning the Aliens cut, I prefer the Theatrical. It's more punchy. The extended cut is definitely worth watching though.
  5. WOW some of you people on this forum are so idiotic. You need to realize that these products are marketed to the average consumer, who will not care if a few tracks are left out. We where lucky we got a bonus disc in the Indy box with a few rare tracks. For me, the 97 special edition of the SW OT soundtracks are just fine. Most people don't give a shit about what isn't in the film (alternates/variations). As far as sound quality, have never heard any sound problems and I have good earphones. Realize these where mastered in 97. And can we really expect special editions like these to just pop up out of the blue? No. They will wait until there is a big event when interest is up. The new Indy OSTs where released when the new film came out, the special editions of the SW OT when the films where re-released and so on. He doesn't make films for you. The music is composed for the film, not an album release. Releasing soundtrack albums is a gamble nowadays, especially when you spending even more money are remastering/paying the people to remaster them. CD sales are declining, especially soundtrack releases.
  6. It deserves a win for Best Picture. Now... What where people expecting from the story? For me, I loved it, along with everything else. It was clear, concise, and simple, not overly complex like so many films are these days. It definitely wasn't groundbreaking, but it WORKED and was still engaging. Was the story ever groundbreaking in any of Cameron's films? No. It was always the visuals that where groundbreaking, yet they where still there to serve the story at hand. Expectations have gone waaay up during these last ten years.
  7. Loved the movie, loved the soundtrack. I think James Horner did an excellent job. I'm not an avid collector of Horner's work so alot of the "rip-off'" i didn't pick up. I hope they release a "more music from" or complete soundtrack this year. I think if it gets best score this will have a good chance. There was still a few cues that I missed from the soundtrack release.
  8. Anyone here thought about making an alternate Avatar soundtrack cover?
  9. to the OP: Yes. Viewing a film does indeed make listening outside of the context of the visuals better. For me atleast. John Williams - Star Wars (Original Series OSTs) David Arnold - Casino Royale Shiro Sagisu - Evangelion OSTs Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori - Halo OSTs Jerry Goldsmith - Alien Good examples of work that stands outside of their visual pieces, though I'm sure many will disagree with me on Alien. Yeah, I can never get through my 2-disc, re-organized, The Dark Knight score.
  10. Alien. Because, in my mind, it is the PERFECT movie.
  11. Has anyone done one for ALIEN? I'd like to see that.
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_(soundtrack) ^ Some of the title placement seems to differ with some of your list (the first half of Aggresive Expansion is placed and A Little Push seems to be placed in a different scene). Any idea about those?
  13. Nice work Rectrek. Though where do the Why So Serious? , Harvey Two Face , A Dark Knight suites go?
  14. Because most bootleg complete scores are ridden with sfx and the like. I didn't ask for advice to compile one of those. Yeah its pretty obvious the Ultimate Ed. is hated, but I just wanted to make better use of what I own.
  15. So I am trying to build a soundtrack experience similar to what was done with the 97 OT soundtrack releases by combining the indivudal cues off the Ultimate Ed. of Phantom Menace into one full track (with fade ins and outs present at both the beginning and end of each track). I am also wondering which of the many titles within each suite I should use... Has anyone else done this who can lend me a hand here? Example of one I've done - 02. Main Title/Arrival at Naboo (10:23)
  16. Easily my second favorite composer after Williams. It really is a shame he is so underrated, his score to End Of Evangelion is simply incredible! Hell, all his stuff his great namely Casshern. Anyways, he has quite a knack for writing memorable action pieces. Anyone else a fan?
  17. I'm a die hard fan of the scores. I have the FutureLand releases and am now collecting the new box sets that are being released. The sound quality on the sets are really great. You probobly should have made three different polls. The Heisei and the Millenium series should be seperate, but I voted for King Kong vs. Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Biollante.
  18. I have long considered getting the Sony re-releases of the three classic Star Wars scores, yet I have not been given a definite answer regarding if they are worth getting. I have the original RCA releases that were released back in 97 and was curious if the sound quality on these newer releases are any better. Thoughts?
  19. There are a few cues. I was going to mention Alien³. I think it would indeed benefit from a re-master and I remember there being a few cues that were not on the album. Sphere would also be great, it's damn near impossible to track a copy of that one down. Jaws 4 would be awesome too.
  20. Ah of course. Still though. The shark barely moves! Strongly disagree with you here. Wach the scenes in Jaws 1 when Bruce eats the guy off the rowboat and the scene when it appears below Brody on the crowsnest with the tank in it's mouth. But yes. Jaws III is much better than Revenge.
  21. Indy4: Good decision. If you're looking for something memorable and exiting, then you'll get it. It's a good score. Maybe not as well written as the first two, but still. Some damn fine tunes in there (those being the Main Title, the SeaWorld Theme, the "Saved By The Dolphins" cue and "The Shark's Gonna Hit Us!" cue, which uses a repeated string line that gains intensity until the orchestra finally reaches obvilion. I just think that alot of people overlook the score, because of the bashing that Jaws 3 gets all the time. Personally, I don't think the movie was as bad as most people make it out to be. I find the flick highly entertaining. Actually I found it to be...pretty disturbing in alot of parts with the shark. I mean cmon...a dude gets eaten alive! And the shark has almost no facial expressions whatsoever, is pale white, and is over 30 feet long (pretty f'n big compared to the one in the first two). I like how Parker uses these ultra low strings to score the shark, which I think worked very nicely.
  22. This is wonderful news! A L I E N is maybe my no. 1 favorite movie of all time. Jerry's score for it was brilliant and is, without a doubt, the creepiest score I have ever heard. And I think that considering that he passed away a couple of years ago, I think it's right to give some justice to some of his older works, which Intrada is doing quite nicely here. Anyways, for those of you who haven't heard the score. It really is good stuff ("The Landing" is absolutely beautiful) and I'd recommend it. Just be sure to check you pants after listening, as mentioned earlier.
