Honorable mention to chitth chitty bang bang

Hmm, I forgot about that one. I don't think I'd put it in my personal top 15 but I quite enjoyed it.

I saw Into the Woods yesterday, and it was great! Got me thinking about my favorite movie musicals...that can be either movies adapted from the stage, or original movie musicals. I'd put my top fifteen as follows (in no order): West Side Story The Sound of Music Sweeney Todd Rent On the Town The Wizard of Oz Into the Woods The Phantom of the Opera The Nightmare Before Christmas Fiddler on the Roof Pocahontas Hairspray Prince of Egypt Mary Poppins Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory What are other good movie musicals?

Pretty short, but Stephen Sondheim gives a brief shout-out to JW's score to Jaws. 1:28

I think this is the source of "When You're All Alone"...at 0:55 for instance (but also throughout)

Uh-oh...he recently got that new purple one (which looks fantastic on him, btw).

Isn't the CoS score mostly performed by members of the LSO?

I disagree. The performance on the prequels and HP1 are far superior to that of the Hollywood studio scores in the last few decades...particularly for the more technical stuff

Men of Yorktown is great, but I think I prefer JWs take on it in Song for World Peace

And Family Plot came out like a year before midway

Can't believe this sold out before Family Plot

Haha, never noticed the similarity. Interesting, since that seem is said to also be similar to Vader's theme...

What have the last 15 years of big-screen Tolkien meant to you?
indy4 replied to Dixon Hill's topic in Tolkien Central
The first trilogy is one of the greatest filmic trilogies ever (scores as well). I saw the first Hobbit in theatres, and haven't yet seen the second. I'm very surprised to find myself so uninterested in the second trilogy.- 252 replies

The Force Awakens 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' SCORE speculation

I don't think it's very similar to the sarlaac music. Reminded me more of On the Conveyor Belt from AotC- 1,120 replies

LOVED the new music. The narration was a bit cheesy, as was the subtitle appearance at the end. Not sure about the new lightsaber design. But other than that I ate this trailer up...looks great!!

'Music for Brass': New Williams work for Brass Ensemble
indy4 replied to Joe Brausam's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Yeah I'm 100% sure they said they'd be recording it, and 90% sure they said it'd be in a studio (I think Skywalker something?) -

I was at the premiere and I'm 90% certain they said they'd be recording it in a studio -
Williams starts scoring Episode VII in two (!) weeks..?
indy4 replied to Sandor's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I think the performances in the JW/LSO collaborations since 1999--from a technical standpoint--are far superior to any other orchestra he's worked with. Tintin was good performance, but pales in comparison in many respects. I think the biggest problem with session orchestras is that they aren't used to playing with specific other orchestra members (at least not to the extent that an established orchestra is), and so they are often not as tightly in-sync with each other (both rhythmically and pitch-wise). -

I like that they aren't including the episode number, but in surprised since they're going to be making spinoff movies at the same time as they'll be adding to the saga...could get confusing for people

So I take it this is what MV was referring to? Which of these sites offers the highest sound quality?
-
I can't view the above video, but are y'all aware that during some radio interview they played the GP theme without narration?
-
That's just overoptimistic wishful thinking Lots of JW fanfares have remained unheard for deades But what recent ones are unrecorded, even if unofficially? Music for Brass doesn't count because it's going to be recorded and released
