  1. I'm surprised there weren't any 'gets it' in ID4....there's a plethora of opportunity: Satellite Gets It The Wrong Field Gets It AWAC Gets It Welcome Wagon Gets It New York/D.C./LA Gets It Jimmy Gets It El Toro Gets It Slimey Gets It The First Lady Gets It Mothership Gets It
  2. Haven't listened to the clips, but I do recall thinking it sounded like there were some cuts or something odd in the iso score of that cue, so I was guessing there might be some unreleased/ unused music there. Cool!
  3. Thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this too. Woodwind Quintet is my favorite chamber ensemble and this was great to hear. That's super sad that he didn't live past 47.
  4. First that I have heard of Irving Fine and I really love this! You describe it so well. I love the warmth it has! I'm going to look for more of his works. ------------- If anyone wants to have some nice Renaissance music this holiday season, I've been loving the release by New London Consort of Tielman Susato's Danseyres. I've enjoyed every iteration of these dances that I can find, including a number of wind ensemble/ band arrangements.
  5. Those are fun!! Love this album!
  6. I remembering hearing and loving this when it showed up on Jim's Youtube channel, but somehow missed that you arranged it. It's fantastic!! Wonderful work!
  7. Really trying not to listen to samples and just bask in the glory once I get mine in the mail......
  8. I have resurrected this thread from 2002 to mention some wonderfully performed brass arrangements by Vienna Brass Connection that I have been enjoying recently: https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/take-one-vienna-brass-connection/0717281912174 I highly recommend this album and it contains a killer recording of Summon the Heroes for brass & percussion. Really great playing! There's no youtube recording of Summon the heroes sadly, but here's Hymn to the Fallen and Born on the Fourth of July, both of which are great too!
  9. Wonderful work! I really like the revisions Williams made going from 6M57 to 6M57R, although for the original version it's cool that the focus on the TIE fighter gets one pizzicato in low strings, and then when camera focuses on Stormtroopers, another pizzicato. Neat little detail. Also interesting to hear Rey's them in soft harp like that in the original.
  10. I love Brett Mitchell's cover's/ arrangements/transcriptions of some of Williams music, everyone should check out his channel!
  11. I really enjoy your contributions to JWFan and definitely noticed! I have a pair of Klipsch KG 3.5 (90s era speakers) in the living room that I listen on, though I find them much better for rock/pop than classical and film scores. I'll be in the market to upgrade to something better in the next couple of years....
  12. If you listen to it with nachos and beer like I did, it's not boring at all. but seriously though, I do like Presumed Innocent and and I'm happy to have all of it.
  13. Amistad has always been score that when I listen to it, I enjoyed it quite a lot, but then wouldn't return to it for some time. I'm very excited and amazed to see so much unreleased music. I'm so excited to hear some late-90s-era Williams music that I have not heard at all before, and the rest of it that I'm just not all that familiar with. Should be a fantastic experience. I've never seen the movie, maybe I will try to catch it before the CDset arrives to me.
  14. I like Surrender quite a bit more, but still like TND. I love when the Surrender theme starts playing in brass somewhere during White Knight (I think bond is blowing stuff up with the jet missiles or guns before taking off). Works so well as part of the score.
  15. Wow, what a stellar LLL Black Friday....so exciting!
  16. Man, I've been waiting for this since I first finished playing through the original OST in 1997
  17. Starting around 1:40 or so sounds kinda familiar! Sounds like this and the first Claus movie are probably fun scores, I must check them out!
  18. This show has so much in it that is high quality. The dialogue, acting, cinematography, story....all beautifully done. Genevieve O'Reilly and Stellan Skarsgård are my favorites in this. Excited to see how it all comes together at the end of Season 1. I hope poor Bix is mentally okay, seems like she might have suffered real damage at the hands of that Imperial doctor
  19. To make a Goldsmith top-50....must be quite an insurmountable task!
  20. I love The Fabelmans theme, but there's something that connects to me even more with Dear Basketball. It's one of my most wanted releases.... I hope there's a way to include it on some CD compilation in the future, or maybe a digital release.
  21. Aside from John Williams (anything), I'd be excited always if David Arnold shows up, if any Bond shows up (I dearly hope LLL gets to continue with Bond in the future), or any Elliot Goldenthal, Jerry Goldsmith or Basil Poledouris, Bruce Broughton. I realized recently that the LLL Black Friday announcement has been one of my most looked forward to things all year. It's exciting to see the announcement when it drops, even if it doesn't contain something most-wanted, it's awesome to see well-produced sets with beautiful artwork and I'm always excited to see what shows up each year.
  22. I have listened just once so far. I love the main theme, and in fact it immediately rockets to being one of my top favorite Williams themes. I love the warmth and emotion it evokes. It's beautiful and of course it makes me wish there were more of it to enjoy. For me, it's actually track 01 The Fabelmans which is the standout track. Aside from loving the theme, I really love the recording quality of the piano....sounds wonderful. The secondary theme is certainly Satie-inspired, specifically the Gymnopedie's, most noticed during 05 Reverie. Some other quick thoughts: 02 Mitzi's Dance -I like how 'dreamy' it is and I like how Williams writes for both celeste and harp. 06 Mother and Son -Really great track. I love the guitar, the string writing in the middle before the piano comes in gave me a very brief Lincoln-feel, and then I love hearing the piano on the theme again for the rest of the track. 11 The Letter -I like the celeste, and when the strings and oboe come in it's more of the Satie Gymnopedie feel. I do love the solo oboe and it makes me remember Angela's Ashes with its numerous oboe solos. 12 The Journey Begins -The Jauntiness of this track took me by surprise, coming after all that proceeded it. I do want to see what's happening in the film at this point...I enjoy the rest of the cue, but there's something about the last modulation that felt sudden to me, almost like it was an edit, but I probably just need to get used to how it flows. Important to note that (unless someone else did it), Williams added orchestra to the Haydn piece. It's a piano sonata so in it's original form is only piano, no orchestra. So, for me...if/when I make an edit that doesn't contain the classical pieces, I would still include the Haydn since he has essentially arranged it for orchestra there. Overall, I really love it! Even with how brief it is, he managed to cement two main ideas that feel somehow well developed over only a few cues. That's kind of amazing!
  23. Cast talks a bit about John Williams some and their favorite Williams music. Even the 'I know but they're all dead' story makes an appearance.
