Tallguy got a reaction from Stark in Star Wars: Andor (2022) - released episode spoilers allowed
We watched The Terminal the other night. Luna does not appear to be aging.

Tallguy got a reaction from Tom Guernsey in STAR WARS Custom Covers thread
My biggest problem with coming up with new covers for Star Wars and Empire is that I can't come up with anything better than the one sheets for those films.
But these are lovely. Luke on the tauntaun is just about definitive for Empire. The Falcon intro is certainly pivotal. And the matte of the imperial shuttle is simply gorgeous.
(I always tell my kids, truthfully, that I don't like t-shirts and whatnot of bad guys. I don't need "Turn to the Dark Side" and that nonsense. I like the heroes, thanks. When my wife got me a t-shirt of the landing platform on Endor with the Death Star hanging over head my kids questioned it. I replied "Well... It's just that it happens to be one of the most beautiful matte paintings in the original trilogy!")

Tallguy got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Taika Waititi to Direct New ‘Star Wars’ Film
Are you saying that The Avengers through Endgame never reached the soaring heights of Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2 (!), Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger? Mostly great films to be sure, but nearly nobody is calling anything in there except maybe Iron Man as the pinnacle of the MCU.
The only thing that I'm putting on the pre-Disney pedestal is going to be Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back. i.e. Two of my favorite films of all time. But I certainly think there have been better Disney Star Wars than Return of the Jedi and WAY better than whatever Lucas did from 1983 to 2005. And you can take Rebels, Andor, and Rogue One out of my cold, dead, hands.
You've got me on that one. But before that there was one great Indy movie, one really good one, one that I can probably kind of appreciate now but didn't like at the time, and one that is still far worse that Disney's Indy.

I didn't post the other day but Star Trek pilot director (among LOTS of other things) Robert Butler passed away.

I had no idea he created Remington Steele! I LOVED that show.
The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star Wars poster of all time.

You show me how Han Solo or Leia Organa or even for that matter Darth Vader work in a silent film. They are dialog driven parts. Vader is not Odd Job or Jaws.
Heck, even Threepio and Artoo. It's Threepio's half of the conversation that makes the beeps and boops work.

Tallguy got a reaction from Tom Guernsey in The Doctor Who Thread.....
Gotta say that's awesome.
I'm unaware of the specifics.
"as the Doctor." There was a while where EVERYTHING we watched had David Tennant. Good Omens, Ahsoka, Ducktales. (Older Doctor Who.) The man is a miracle.
Didn't someone (him?) say that he was going to be playing 14 (I swear I can't keep the numbers straight anymore) with his natural accent?
While I'm not in the "Everything old must be changed because they were ignorant and hateful" camp I am also not blind to what we might consider less than enlightened by today's standards. Even if we often go too far in another direction. (YES, women can be starship captains.)
OTOH misanthropy can be so much more relaxing.

I think he probably does regret it a little. Not that he actually wants to run Star Wars day to day again, or even that he'd actually make movies. More like when you really don't want to be with your ex anymore, but it still stings a little when you see her with someone else. And you really don't like how the guy she's dating is treating her.

Tallguy reacted to Holko in Taika Waititi to Direct New ‘Star Wars’ Film
It's a small thermal exhaust port, a one in a jillion shot, Luke had to rely on the Force to make it but the Jedi were all thought to be extinct, they had turrets defending it... there's nothing to be explained there.

Tallguy got a reaction from Oswin Pond in The Doctor Who Thread.....
Yes, Capaldi had the moon thing. One of my least favorite episodes ever.
But he had the Zygons! He had Robin Hood! He had the Husbands of River Song! He had Heaven Sent / Hell Bent. He had... Pretty much all of season 10! He had World Enough and Time and The Doctor Falls! (Which are also in season 10 but need to be mentioned again. I might even mention The Doctor Falls again and separately.) The Doctor Falls! (See? I knew it was a good idea.)
And he's really the only Doctor who kind of got a curtain call. (Twice Upon a Time.)

My brother paid more attention to this than I did, but when it rolled out the promise was "This is Disney, it will always be kid friendly, we have other places for R rated content."
The Capaldi era is my favorite.

Tallguy got a reaction from Mr. Hooper in Taika Waititi to Direct New ‘Star Wars’ Film
It's a massively complex project built over 20 years. It's amazing it held together as long as it did. (I like R1 a lot but I never liked that the exhaust port was on purpose.)
Titanic. Challenger. One of the Mars missions (I forget which one). The list goes on of big things taken down by small mistakes.

I've been told woke has no meaning. Probably here.
I suppose it's the insistence that this is some message that "People in wheelchairs aren't evil." Noted? Who, in this target audience, was even thinking about Davros before this special? "Hey look! He's walking around and can see! And he's STILL a right bastard!" Um. Message? You don't have to be disabled and disfigured to be evil?
I'm sure that people of color, the deaf community, and anyone else who isn't Julian Bleach should be reassured. (I'm MUCH taller than Julian Bleach! I feel seen!)
"It's 2023!" And before that we were all knuckle dragging morons? Imagine what we'll think of 2025.
I'm also glad to see that the Kaleds were a diverse group of people. Interesting choice for a Nazi analogue. Are we going to start making WWII movies with a more color blind perspective?
I grew up with Tom Baker / Peter Davison / Colin Baker / (sorta) Sylvester McCoy. i.e. the era where one simply didn't do Dalek episodes without Davros. So I've been just fine with leaving him to the side. So if it's such a terrible message, why include him here?
But clearly none of this came across. Because all we got out of it was "Oh. This is BEFORE whatever happened to him happens to him. That's kind of fun. And we get to see the actor out of the makeup. Always neat." And RTD knows we wouldn't get it because he felt the need to explain it.

Tallguy got a reaction from Chen G. in Star Wars is better than everything
I don't remember. It was an interview, mid 2000s I think, where (IIRC) they were asking about the two movies he didn't direct. Nothing so ballsy as "Hey you said that nobody should alter a film without the original director." That would have been fun.

Tallguy got a reaction from Chen G. in Star Wars is better than everything
He's earned it.
Our numbers grow.
As has been said upthread, this isn't true. His reaction to Empire (which whatever he thought of the quality almost bankrupted him) is evidence enough. But then he still turns around (to justify monkeying with someone else's film for the SEs) and says that Empire would have been the same if he had directed it.
Again as pointed out above, Lucas has been doing this almost my entire life.

Count me as one of the 41-year-old kids who thought it looked cool when I first saw it. lol
Sure it looked out of character for the usually calm and cool Vader, but who's to say he never went full berserker in combat situations such as this? Anger after all is a Sith's ally, and he sure seemed pissed here!

Didn't know it wasn't made for Loki. Still it would have been a nice bonus track

You mean "A Fifth From Beethoven" by Walter Murphy. It's not on there because it's not by Holt. It's a decade old cue

Tallguy reacted to A. A. Ron in The La-La Land Black Friday 2023 thread
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that we're only missing like 10 minutes of music on this one, so it shouldn't be a problem to fit everything on 1 disc. If they have some legal obligation to retain the original album program, they can just do what Lukas Kendall did with the other John Barry Bond expansions in 2003 and put the new material at the end of the disc.
