Tallguy got a reaction from Bryant Burnette in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
OK, the big news is Bond, sure. And this is "just" the latest Star Trek disc.
But this Star Trek disc is a big deal. We were assured it wouldn't happen. RECENTLY assured! We were told that it was only 6 volumes and that made sense because the remaining scores were the ones that GNP has the rights to. We were lucky enough to get them in the TOS box.
There was a brief wonderful moment when most of the TOS box was available on the streamers. But not these four scores because of the GNP issue. I was always disappointed by this because if you're a Star Trek music fan these are almost THE essential scores. There are a few other exceptions. Of the 15 discs of music that was on the original TOS Box one of the biggest revelations were theses two pilot scores. Both in terms of new content (yummy!) and how AMAZING they sounded.
And Amok Time and Doomsday Machine are pretty cool too.
I'm so happy that anyone who wants this can now have this as part of the collection.

I fugging love Star Trek and its music. Look at this glorious pic.
I’m gonna put all my Trek discs all over my bed like this and roll around.

Nothing was “found” — they simply were able to work out a sublicense with GNP Crescendo for a final 2CD reissue of expanded/remastered versions of their first two volumes — four Trek scores they control in perpetuity and which we’d originally heard would not be possible to issue on an individual volume.
As to “how”:

So fear not; this is the end of the 1701 reissue series. It can’t hurt you any more.

Just placed my order for Volumes 7 and 3.
@ me when Volumes 4 and 5 start getting low.

But Jeff Bond!
I'm putting together a list of what tracks are missing. But that's generally true. Sounds effects and vocals. Some alternates. But there are still a lot of alternates.

That’s what I would do. I imagine people bought them in order of release rather than preference, so logic dictates that the remaining quantities of the lower numbered volumes are lower.
Looking forward to your list!
I have to imagine that the forthcoming updated edition of Bond’s book will cover anything in the booklets.
I just remember first getting into CDs at the same time I was deep diving TOS for myself. So any TOS on CD always feels special to me somehow.

New liner notes by Jeff Bond. I THINK the tracks that were on the 50th anniversary disc (a missing Mullendore track and better versions of some Courage season 2 cues) are replaced / inserted into this disc. (I just found the Mullendore track on Volume One, so I think I'm correct.)

"Available" is a relative term. Go get those four Star Trek scores on CD for $30 today. $40 even. Go nuts. No hurry. We'll wait.
They could announce Innerspace in exactly the same program that was released previously and I would be singing from the rooftops. (PLEASE announce Innerspace. Please please please please...)
This is the first Connery Bond score to get a modern day remastering. By La-La Land, no less. (I'm told they do good work.) If they announced, say, Star Wars under the same conditions it would still be a pretty big deal.
So yeah, hype.

We saw that one post with the date in the golden, Goldfinger poster font, and correctly guessed that La-La Land were releasing Goldfinger.
Not overhyped, just the perfect tease for what was coming.
The only reason anyone could claim this is over-hyped is that they expected more to exist than actually does.
Reality is, Goldfinger in-and-of-itself IS the thing, and IMHO is worthy of the hype. This release is the best release currently possible of that score, and La-La Land threw their best people at the project.
Knowing the nature of finding tapes for early Bond scores, and how much they have been talked about, I had hopes that more would be found, but I really had no expectation or certainty about that.
The Mono and Anthony Newly versions of the song are pretty big bonus cues for me, and I'm very happy with this.
Let's celebrate what they were able to do to celebrate such a classic movie and score.

To be fair, all they did was post an image that said "October 1, 2024" in Goldfinger's poster font, with no commentary at all. They didn't tell anyone to get hyped. Fans hyped themselves.

Tallguy reacted to A. A. Ron in The Official La-La Land Records Thread
I never said these weren't worthy releases. I just don't like that they teased them like they were some big thing. If they start doing this for every release, that's fine, but to me and I'm sure many other collectors, these releases are merely good news, not quite "hype."

To anyone with a remotely passing interest in Star Trek TOS, get Volume One ASAP as they are down to their last few copies. That they got the 7th disc licensed is a bit of a miracle. I own the box set, and now I am even more super happy I bought the individual editions again. This is phenomenal music belonging in every collection.

By Chris Malone, no less! Listen to his repair/restoration work on scores with substantially damaged sections like The Towering Inferno by Williams, or The Other/A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Goldsmith. If anyone can squeeze better sound out of the surviving Goldfinger elements, it's him.
Oh man, if Chris Malone were to get his hands on Star Wars it would be a dream come true. Even if no additional music was included.

Tallguy reacted to Edmilson in John Barry's GOLDFINGER (1964) - NEW! 2024 La La Land Records expansion
I did a quick comparison with the 2003 EMI tracklist and it was pretty much the same thing with the new LLL, the only two new tracks were the bonus tracks:
16. Goldfinger 2:50 Performed by Anthony Newley
17. Goldfinger (Mono Version) 2:50 Performed by Shirley Bassey
I guess the producers couldn't find anything new and the supposed 15 minutes that are missing couldn't be found and are lost to time now...
At least the LLL seems to be chronological though, unlike the 2003. I think it's chronological, never seen the movie lol

I'm assuming these were the only materials they had or could find, so the key for me here is the remastering etc.
I'm more than happy to get this Goldfinger re-issue, and I trust La-La Land's judgement, Neil S. Bulk and Chris Malone on the audio side, and I like Dan Goldwasser's design work.
