    Hahah Same here.

And risk missing out on the potential of an error disc containing tracks Williams didn't approve, like A.I.?

I can't be bothered to check how many times I've posted this sentiment, but...if you don't have this one, and if you have any interest whatsoever in this music, pick this set up. The sound quality is as big as improvement over the Blue Box as the Blue Box was over the old Rhino release, and that's saying something. I don't triple-dip too often, but this one was easily worth it.

Disc 1 Tradition is very bright. The rest of it, and Disc 2 too, thankfully sound fantastic, better than I hoped! Nothing like one of the earlier releases I skipped into that felt like the vocals were at 80% volume and the orchestra was at 20%, this here is a very healthy mix! Entr'acte is incredible to hear so clear, the film mix on the blu transfer is awful, phasing all over, noisy, near unlistenable. Even Disc 3 sounds better than expected, for a film stem source with supposed minor sound effects! All Hail Saint Mike!

To anyone not much familiar with the music itself, I heartily suggest to watch (or rewatch) the film first. While for regular movies it's possible to appreciate the score as a stand-alone listening experience even without seeing the film first, musicals are totally different beasts and you really need to experience Fiddler on The Roof  as a piece of musical filmmaking first and foremost. That will give you the absolutely essential context in which appreciate the music itself and Williams' stellar adaptation.

I know many here don't like musicals per se as a genre, but anyone with good taste should appreciate Fiddler for the great film it is, so when yo will go through this new edition it will be a true feast for your ears.

The most exciting aspect of this release is that it's clearly a labor of love from everyone involved, from producer to composer (and the artist was clearly inspired too, based on the packaging!)

Not overly familiar with either musical or film, so this will join releases like The River and Images where I get to discover and fall in love with a score thanks entirely to an expansion.

What a joyous time to be a John Williams fan. Congratulations to all involved!

With all due respect, you're a broken record. You don't need to come into every expansion announcement and declare the release doesn't interest you. We get it. Move on and post in threads that do interest you.

Can you seriously not understand how your perpetually negative sentiment around remasters/expansions would be deflating to Mike and the various people working their asses off to produce these releases? Not to mention Williams himself, who seems to be rapt with these updated presentations of his scores.

Technically, it IS the original OST, or at least, a version of it - The 1971 vinyl edition had 3 tracks omitted (Wedding Procession, First Act Finale, Entr'acte), all of which appeared on the cassette and 8 track editions released at the time.  For whatever reason when the soundtrack album came to CD they went with the shorter vinyl edition, and then the makers of the 30th anniversary set added them back, but included a bunch of wrong information, like putting "previously unreleased score track" next to those 3 cues as well as stating that the London Symphony recorded the score!

    Yea

I think while Williams is alive and approving releases we'll never get instrumental versions of songs released.  MGM doing a 50th anniversary edition of the film and giving it an isolated score track would have been the only opportunity for that.

There are instrumental versions of "Wedding Celebration and The Bottle Dance" and "The Rejection Scene" here, because those aren't really "songs", they are more like score cuts that had film dialogue/sfx included on the OST album.  Now we get to hear them completely clean!

The sound effects are incredibly minor and brief, and don't detract from the enjoyment of the music at all

Yes!  A true master of the field.

"Playback Version" means the music recorded before filming, to then play back for the actors to lip-sync to on set.  So they have vocals, performed by the same cast members that sing the final versions.  In some cases these versions are longer than the final versions of the songs, as you can see by comparing times!

I...agree, to a certain extent. There's a lot of music out there that I love about as much as JW's work, and I'm grateful that not all music sounds like his. Variety is, after all, the spice of life. But I've never found another composer who pushes the right buttons in my brain so consistently and so strongly and for so many decades.

Hedji got a reaction from Jurassic Shark in JW vs. JG: which composer would you rather play on a date?
    John Barry.

Unless she's freaky, then you put on Jerry with tons of synth farts to keep things unpredictable.  Nothing like adult drinks and some classy boiiinggs from Extreme Prejudice or Mom and Dad Save The World to spice things up.

This is a Jerry score I own no version of (and maybe only heard one of the old albums one time or so), so I'm very excited to finally discover this score, and do so via the best possible presentation.  Woohoo!

Never ceases to amaze me how people can wax lyrical about Williams scoring action films into his late 80s, yet mock Ford for playing this role in his 70s.

We should celebrate these people for dedicating their twilight years to work, when they could easily be enjoying retirement. The likes of Ford and Williams and Attenborough (who continues to narrate documentaries at 95!) should be applauded, not ridiculed.
