Unlucky Bastard got a reaction from Yavar Moradi in Does your interest in film scores wane if the cadence of specialty label releases you are interested in slows down?
I just thought it was a given that film score fans would be more inquisitive and be more proactive in exploring where all that romanticism, expressionism, impressionism, barbarism, modernism, -ism, -ism, -ism, -asm, etc. all came from and how it developed over the last few hundred years. I can only conclude that the contextualisation of "the movies" plays a big role in the film music fan's psyche (no shit, I guess).

Unlucky Bastard got a reaction from bruce marshall in Is it possible to write the Best Film Score Of All Time in the 2020s?
Another problem is so many film scores now don't even come out on CD. They're only available on the internet, so I never get to hear them.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Has one great bit, “Scherzo for Motorcycle”, but other than that was a disappointingly uninteresting listen. Couldn’t hear any thematic material, which is strangely unlike Temple of Doom where I can recall Short Round’s theme off the top of my head.
I put on Powell’s HTTYD3 shortly afterward to wash away the boredom and it really brought attention to what a much better storyteller Powell is. I rarely hear Williams telling a story through music, I usually just hear him pulling out his usual bag of tricks, complete with his action music that could be applied anywhere.

Unlucky Bastard reacted to TheUlyssesian in 8 scores this century won every single music award. Which one is your favorite?
La La Land is indeed very lame. I think of it as a very millennial movie - safe, bloodless, tame with none of the real ache of real "real life" in it. It is an infantilized movie - like say Marriage Story.
It is kinda remarkable how much more older films are made for adults than the mild diversions made today.

Joan was perhaps a bit mumsy compared to Liz's unapologetic sultriness. Both the De Havilands had a matronly squarishness about them that made them both a bit outdated by the newly developing edginess of the 1950s.

I imagine once the complete score is released everyone here will suddenly change their tune after 30 years (20 in the case of the millennial and Gen Z twits) and adore it.
"The most underrated Spielberg/Williams collaboration?"
"Almost as great as Harry Potter"

The recording and performance of the film version is kinda clunky, but the album recording is great.
