The soundtrack of Romance.

Recommended Posts

Next week I will be having a very romantic evening with a girl who is very special to me.

I wanna make a compilation CD with romantic film music to play on the background, and I would appriciate some tips and suggestions.

So far i've already settled on The Secret Wedding from BRAVEHEART, Many Meetings from FOTR and Pillow Talk from BASIC INSTINCT.

Thanx.

Hm, let's think...

-"Luke&Leia" from RotJ

-Something from The American President

-"Rose" from Titanic

-"Monica's Theme" from A.I.

-Several tracks from Forrest Gump

-The love theme from First Knight

-The love theme from Frankenstein (Doyle)

-"Mitch & Abby" from The Firm

...

If anything, I've learned that most people want background music out of movie scores. That means nusic that is not intrusive. I would recommend, thus, Schindler's List, Main Title from Rudy, and Hymn to the Sea (Titanic). It doesn't matter what the music was written for, but what it makes you feel.

The E.T. music that was supposed to be used when ET is with Elliot installing the signaling device. Strings simulating the wind. If she doesn't fall with this, leave her. :D

Somewhere in Time always works. Chicks dig that film & score. Or rather, they dig that piano piece, "Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganni."

Romeo and Juliet has many nice romantic moments.

Body Heat has a track called "Kill for Pussy" that might work...

Here's my advise, keep the film music out of the evening(or at least save it for after you get somehere with this girl).Go buy a compilation of mushy trendy pop tunes, that will do just fine.

Anything (well almost) by Georges Delerue should have her reeling with romantic intentions.

Check out Varese' compilation as part of the 'Great Composers' series, it's gorgeous!

James N. Howard's 'Prince Of Tides' is also a winner (IMO, and experience :) )

Williams wise, i would agree with Miguel re 'Sabrina', would also include The Balloon sequence from 'Witches Of Eastwick' & 'Jane Eyre's' theme.

But then they would be living a lie, one they couldn't keep even if they wanted to. It would destroy them.

even though I did not like Titanic (Ok: I HATE IT!!!) I have to recommend

the song "Portrait" of the "Back to Titanic" CD.

pure piano

played by the composer himself

or is this too sad?

or what about the love theme from "Cinema Paradiso" by E. Morricone?

or the love theme from The Godfather?

(just to mention some non-Williams love theme because Williams did SO MUCH incredible Love Themes!)

Stefan,

I can only give you some titles which my girlfriend happens to like. She's not into film music at all (like most girls are not into film music; most people are actually not into film music...), but she kind off liked these pieces:

* The Portrait (Titanic). I used to play this for her on the piano.

* La Califfa by Ennio Morricone. You probably don't know this piece, but it's extremely romantic and one of the most gorgeous melodies I know. It's truly amazing.

* ...

Well; that's it actually. The months we spend together I didn't really listen to film music at all. Maybe she would have liked more, but we were way to busy doing other things.... :)

Bye!

Roald

Band of Brothers

A slow but very romantic score. Some tracks are obviously very inappropriate, but Austria or some of the earlier tracks may work. I think they're more of a romantic mood setter than a romantic night-of-passion accompaniment.

Oh, I'm glad your right hand enjoyed the CD.

-ROSS, who doesn't think the success of the evening should be credited to the CD.

Ross, i'm glad to see your less then voluntary stay in Spain has not turned you into a sad, jaded and lonely man.

Hopefully you speak the noble Spanish language enough to understand the dialogue in those X rated films you rent every friday night.

It would please me if oneday you would find someone to love you and care for you, you are a prince among Spaniards and a fine fellow.

With love and respect.

4. Pillow Talk- Basic Instinct (Jerry Goldsmith)

 That sounds like more of third-date music. Those pulsing strings.....if I were on a first date I'd know exactly what the owner of that CD was going after. :folder:

Glad to hear it went well.

Does this mean you finally have a place of your own? Or did you just kick the parents out the door?

I'm afraid I don't keep track with everything going on here, and so maybe this should have been old news to me.

I never claimed it was for a first date.

We were actually celebrating the fact that it was six months since we first met.

As for including that Basic Instinct cue, i did it primarily because i wanted to examine how it would work.

Now i know. ;)

Ah yes, something is coming back to me, well congratulations then. Hoorn right.

Have you settled already, or do you still need to get used to it?

Cleaning up is the worst part isn't it?

Anyway, does this mean you'll be hosting a Williams party soon?
