Never seen The Empire Strikes Back recording sessions?

A documentary released (I believe in the UK) in 1980 called "Star Wars: Music by John Williams" features some recording session footage from the The Empire Strikes Back. The whole documentary is on YouTube. Part 2 has some nice goodies.

It is a great one! And has one of the proper glimpses at the whole scoring process Williams goes through with a film from spotting sessions to working with the music editor to time the scenes and then composing, orchestrating (the great moment with Herb Spencer in there) and recording.

It is a shame no longer sections of the recording sessions have not been released in a docu form but I think the marketability to casual fan is close to zero.

"Watch the composer and orchestra fitting a cue to the scene! Hear Williams giving players instructions on bar 27 of Battle in the Snow! Watch Ken Wannberg in the recording booth with Eric Tomlinson! See Lionel Newman! Experience the power of doing 5 takes of the Asteroid Field and the composer stopping the performance mid-bar in 3 of them to improve the dynamics! All this and more on ESB recording sessions!"

I know this documentary very well, but the recording of The Imperial March showcasing in the interview is not on the documentary.

You're right. Would be interesting to know where that came from and how much video was taken of the recording sessions.

He's not too happy though in the session.

I can't find that.

And it's also good to see some of that footage with a better quality.
